Diamond-ish pattern.
In the WWII-era period movie, "The Way We Were," this location is exactly where a crushed, curly haired and insecure Katie Morosky, dying a bit inside, says to Hobbell Gardiner, upon seeing his uber-blonde, uber-WASP girlfriend (Katie's replacement) for the first time, "You're girl is lovely, Hubbell."
(The camera is, effectively, shooting from the fountain looking toward the hotel)

Certainly a variety of diamond pattern tweed. Does the center dot qualify it as pheasant's eye tweed?
Were I a younger man, I might wish to research and produce an in-depth (I.e., entirely commercially non-viable.) richly illustrated history of tweed, researched (In person, of course!
) in Scotland where there's still some knowledge of the myriad of patterns and their proper nomenclature. Would make one heck of a coffee table book that would cost far too much, and be of interest to far too few. Might fly though as a limited edition subscription based book for sartorialists blessed with very abundant lucre.
I recall the collarless jacket as a fashion revived for a season or two in the late '50's or very early '60's. As an unconstructed, often brightly hued jacket of inexpensive cotton, linen and sometimes even terry cloth, it actually didn't look that bad as dressier summer beach wear.
