Aviation Leathercraft Irvin Sizing

Hi there,

I’m going to treat myself to a 2nd hand ALC shearling. There’s a few on eBay available and I want to know what size to choose.

I’m a very slim chap, imagine dental floss with hair. I wear a 38R suit, but I have unusually broad shoulders, meaning a 38R coat is far too tight, additionally I have long spider like arms, so I usually require a longer sleeve length on shirts. I’d love to go to the ALC store but it’ll be months till that’s open; and further to that a new jacket would be too expensive, ergo it has to be 2nd hand.

This in mind, and also considering I want this jacket to last me the rest of my time; do I go with a 40R, 42R or 42L (these are the sizes for sale)? Many thanks all.

They don't run too long down the back, if you are remotely getting on for 6ft go for a long. As its an Irvin it won't look out of shape if you go for a 42, it will probably look better if anything. The Aviation Leathercraft irvins have very fluffy cuffs compared to more accurate makers but other than that, it will be grand.

They are beautifully made jackets RHA but I would think long and hard before getting one. My first Irvin was a ALC and I found it waaay too bulky (even for an Irvin) and the tubular arms were very uncomfortable. Apparently the older ones were cut better and maybe if your going 2nd hand it might be more broken in but if your after an Irvin there are better options out there.

Iv had mine for 24 years,great jacket & the one I head for when the temperature gets low.nothing & I mean nothing comes close,not my Anj4,b3 etc.if it’s to keep warm without being bothered about being a stitch for stitch replica get one,,vey comfortable compared to my other jackets,,30 of the buggers.ps,love the pockets
