My earliest memory of hipsters was around 2008 or so. I remember talking to the son of one of my contractor buddies and being pleasantly surprised to learn that he was into Red Wing boots, It was the first time I saw the Iron Ranger. It’s funny because I like many of the same things that hipsters do with a few exceptions (skinny jeans being the main one) but I am definitely not a hipster.
I have to say though that any group that canonizes bacon and Sriracha hot sauce can’t be too bad!

I do struggle with so many of these GQ-type "how to wear it" things I see online. Fair enough, we all absorb ideas from others as to what looks good with what, it's not the advice I object to but moreso the implicit assumptions by so many people who give out such advice that their personal, subjective ideas are not hard and fast rules. It especially grates when they make claims of fact that are simply utter rot, repeating "received wisdom" they picked up somewhere that is wholly counter-factual. Sort of thing that putssome big companies' marketing-led, historical revisionism to shame.

Marketing can be dangerous. It's surprisingly easy to be taken in by online "discounts", "flash sales", and "rarity". I remember some years ago observing, dumbfounded, how so many people get caught out on eBay, whether by bidding in a fury and overpaying when there are dozens of the same item selling all the time, often even from the same seller, or overpaying because they neve thought to look out at Amazon or other website and assumed "ebay must be cheaper".

I somehow believe if you wear leather jacket you shouldn't care much to style it... but many time I fell victim to do exactly the opposite of my own view and go around like costume party, lucky I only wear it to nearest supermarket, stationery supplier store, and petrol station... eye cancer limited to those unlucky people happen to be there at that hour, and fellows here but people here has much higher immunity from daily exposure.

however I prewarn you, when my black crosszip rolls in, I will dig in the very back of my pants drawer to pull out my black skinny jeans from 8 years ago, don't care what side effects it may bring to family, neighbors, animal pet, or society.

I'll wear it like graduation toga. took 8 years to finally have the first leather with a collar sewn on.

Cheaper than watches, and motorcycles. I’m sure there are others, I’ve never golfed, but those two I can vouch for.

I recently sold a high end putter and a watch to balance out the costs of a leather jacket. Sold the motorcycle after kid #2 was born. I need to take up a very inexpensive hobby next.

I can relate, but my experience is the inverse. Over the past 6 months, I turned away from leather jackets/outerwear back to watches and I'm pursuing multiple grail pieces. The heart wants, what the heart wants.

My first experience with pour over coffee made to order happened a few years ago in Oakland, California.
I was in a hurry to get to a meeting but I saw parking in front of a coffee shop that I’d heard a lot of good things about. I ran in and asked for a large cup of dark roast to go. The barista asked me which kind of dark roast. I was amazed to look up at the board and see that they had 12 different kinds of coffee available. That’s wild, I thought to myself, how do they brew all of that coffee and keep it fresh? After I had paid I realized they did not brew anything until you had ordered it and then they made your cup individually. I watched in horror as the process played out slowly and realized that I had picked the wrong day to try the hipster coffee house.

In defense of pour over coffee it is damn good though. But not really worth the time. Only if you have the time. I love coffee but I also am just fine with some quick Tim Hortons or Dunkin Donuts coffee. I’m not too picky.

3yrs ago i was chosen to be a member of national day celebration commitee in my neighborhood, given task to make banners, invitation cards, and posters... i have to work with fellow a neighbor who would be tasked with printing them and installing them, and he was real hipster at heart... he came to my house to collect the usb stick with the drawings to be printed, i offer him coffee since 3 in 1 instant coffee sachets are the only thing i have beside water, he took a sip and proceed to chuckle and told me this is a beverage with coffee flavor... not a coffee,

he then told me he air out his coffee beans on monday to wednesday under the sun from 6am to 9am to absorb good light spectrum, rest it on thursday, do it again on friday to sunday, and then he will roast and grind it, after that he would use his own modified expresso machine, and the result would be called wine coffee. And that he plan to open his coffeehouse, and ask me do i think it would be successful in this neighborhood, I answer as long as it has good internet hotspot... he frowned said no no no internet, this is a place to savour the cofee and to talk about it. He also wanted to know how to project batsign but with a picture of cofee mug, i answered probably it need a strong spot light, a lense, a mug negative picture and a cloudy night.

Next he came with his portable espresso machine and a small batch of this special batch, he worked on this machine over my stove, accidentally release a valve and spill coffee allover crevices of my stove, and after all that he produced 2 half cups of this supposedly special coffee, i take a small sip... and to me it tasted like a bitter and sour scam, i rather dye my natural belt with it than to finish it.

I’m even less picky. I usually don’t drink coffee outside my home, but when I do it’s from 7/11 with a healthy dose of French vanilla creamer!

I have a strong suspicion these coffee lovers who sit over their very small cup of dark coffee for many minutes or get into very engaging chat inbetween small sips, actually really hate their cup and just struggling over it.

I made either 3 in 1 instant coffee or ground coffee with creamer and sugar with dispenser water in the morning, took a big gulp, another big gulp, sit down turn on my pc, take another gulp and my mug is empty so I walk back to the kitchen to make exactly similar mugful of coffee, and make another mug to keep in the fridge for after lunch to drink it cold like liquid icecream. that's how someone who honestly love his beverage do, they drink it a lot.

Dunkin' Donuts coffee is my fav, that stuff is like crack!

I think most of us here have addictive personalitites, when we enjoy something we must go all in and that's ok... I find it better to have some interests than nothing at all

And talking about coffee, it is also quite the hobby from what I have seen, not really my drink. I have tried a few different ones, some have a more interesting taste than others, but nothing has made me want to invest time in it.

Tea, on the other hand, I splurged, found a happy medium, and now am enjoying what I have.

Of all addictions at the moment, leather jacket is what is taking most of my time... I would have bever thought I would write so many messages in a forum lol

I do have more tea pots than jacket true, but that is what I referred to a happy medium lol

Funny part, there is a correlation with leather jackets, the more you use these pots made of clay, the more the flavour develops. The tea equivalent of breaking in and wearing a jacket.

When it comes to jacket, I am gar from that happy medium, too many avenues to explore!
