Belt and epaulets removed- who can put them back?

Hey guys, I have a question and I look forward to all the responses and hopefully someone with experience with this issue will share.
So I bought a perfecto because I have been wanting one recently. I found a cool jacket for a decent price. The only downside is that someone cut the belt and epaulets off. I want to know if its easy to re- attach or a big job? Another thing is who to ask to fix it? Johnson leather? Dena? Or would schott do it?- it is a perfecto? I await for opinions/advice. Thx

Schott Perfectos are common enough that unless you got it for close to free, or didn't mind the missing bits being missing, it would have been better to pass on it and find one that was intact. It can be done, I'm sure, and Dena would know, but I think it would be a problem to find leather that matches the jacket, and then wear it in to blend indistinguishably so that it looks original.

The reason I didn't pass is because its a limited edition perfecto in horsehide with nos talon zippers, originally built in 2011. I had one of these jackets in a xl an it was big so I sold it, I always wanted one in a large so when it came up I grabbed it. The leather is a nice an thick hide with a great smell. The topcoat wears off rather quick. That's why I got it

Thanks for your reply guppy, what if I had Dena add a few more belt loops in the back ? Then I could get a belt that goes all the way around the jacket an could remove it whenever?

Put Gandalf at 3 and bump Dena one spot. Then we are good.

In that case, matching that leather will be all the more difficult...

Maybe the way to go is to turn it into a two-tone jacket with a contrasting leather for the epaulets and belt.

But it just sounds more and more like an impossible project.

If you pick a leather tailor that has been around a long time, they will usually have some pieces left over from other jobs that will be pretty close, especially black. The other members are correct in that it will probably not be exactly the same color, grain, etc. But..it can be close. Then...wear the heck out of the jacket. Don't just leave it in the closet. Over time, generally (and I do say generally) the new pieces will wear in a similar fashion to the rest of your jacket and the repairs won't be obvious. I have a Kerr cafe racer that I had a large panel replaced because of a bad case of somebody's road rash. The lady I go to for repairs did a beautiful job. You really have to inspect the jacket to find the different panel. Not obvious at all. Did cost a bit, but I liked the jacket enough to spring for it.

Thinking about it more, depending on how old the jacket is, Schott may be the best way to go. They might still have scraps of the original leather used, and if so that would be the way to go, assume they're willing to do the repair.

Thats exactly what I thought so I emailed jerri a few hours ago to ask. Since its the weekend I will probably get a response Monday

If Schott won’t do it, get a decent chunk of HH online and send to Dena. She can do it for sure. I’d like to see some pics of the jacket and maybe I could point you in the right direction for ordering a piece of leather. I wouldn’t rule steer out for the accoutrements. Be easier to source.

I'm sure Schott could help too, but Dean is top-notch as well. Not sure if Schott does repairs and all, i know that Vanson still does. Do you have the jacket yet? Photos?

You should email her anyway, it's more professional to actively seek out her help than to passively wait for her to notice that she's been mentioned

@J Leather Investigater, y'know, I'd go with hard, CHP styled belt for this. Maybe even brown, just for the heck of it! Like on early Sears jackets. That'd be something alright. It was the coolest part of my Sugar Cane jacket, that it had that beast of a belt & I always thought it'd work really well on a Schott Perfecto.

I instantly thought about dena, she has already did a great job on a jacket i sent her so I know she can hit a home run. I was thinking schott hoping they had some scrap left over from making the jacket. The jacket is arriving tomorrow. I will upload pics from ebay ad
