Late 1940's Dobbs. Has 2 1/2 inch bound brim and 6 inch open crown. Has the scarce earlyish black sweatband. Felt is thin, soft and very moldable. Hat was advertised as 2 3/4 inch brim, but I forgive that sin. Came in it's original hatbox.

1950's Dobbs Gay Prince, dark blue. Has 2 3/4 inch brim and 5 3/4 inch open crown. This was a $20 hat when new. The sweatband doesn't say "Dobbs Twenty", but the type of liner in this hat was only put in hats costing $20 or more.

What a great color for a GP. I didn’t know this detail about that liner style. I have two GP’s with that liner. One a 1940s the other a 1950s. Interesting if all GPs wear sold as twenty dollar hats.

I'm not absolutely sure, but I seem to think that some a bit earlier were $15 hats. I can't swear to it.

Would make sense for the price to be lower on earlier ones.
But also surprising for both my mid to late 40s and mid 50s GP both being a twenty dollar hat. Maybe it was a period of somewhat price stability before the price and quality ratio started to go off the rails in the later 50s and through the 60s.

I did see several years back in this thread Alan has an unlined Gamebird felted GP from 1946 with a $12.50 price. That might make sense though as unlined lighter weight felts were usually cheaper.

Well, I said this liner was for hats of $20 and up. Maybe I should have said it was for higher priced hats. I can't swear it wasn't ever used early on for $15 hats. But in my mind I always associate it with $20 and higher, since that's what you usually see.

In the process of getting this one descented. I'm hypersensitive to artifical fragrance and this one is delicately full of something. The liner was expertly and very longly like a spider basted in. I need to get photos before I remove the liner.

Gotcha.. I understand. I believe it’s the same liner they used on the 100 @drmaxtejeda posted some time back. Makes sense it would be the one they used in the higher tiered hats.
