Oban. Now there is one brand that I am out of. I'll have to put it on the BevMo list along with Glenfarclas.

One can usually find at least one bottle each from the Balvenie and Glenmorangie in my little makeshift bar, inasmuch as Scotch is concerned. Others are worthy, but often only purchased when out and about.
Other staples include my two favourite liqueurs: Cointreau and Grand Marnier, and a cognac of some sort (though I can't claim to be loyal to any one brand), and tawny port as well, though I happen to be out at the moment.
Everything else I keep is used for mixing cocktails and not necessarily worthy of name recognition, with the notable exception of Luxardo. I rarely get the urge to drink it by itself, but this is non-negotiable as an absolutely necessary ingredient in a Casablanca!

I used to hate whisky until going on a trip to the Giants Causeway. There I was lured in to the Bushmills distillery for a tour, and volunteered for a whisky tasting session (despite the fact I didn't like whisky, I never turn down the chance of free booze). I was introduced to various different malts, and the differences in taste were pointed out and explained, and by the end of the tour, I was a total convert! I do prefer the peatier Scotch to the Irish whiskeys; my favouritre, along with many loungers it seems, being the deliciously smoky Laphroig, with Talisker coming second, and just to be different, the not-at-all peaty Bunnahabhain bringing up the rear. I do enjoy a Bushmills 12 though, as my drinks cabinet will testify.
But, being from a Maritime family, my spirit of choice would have to be Woods 100 rum, drunk neat, or Pussers on the rare occasion I'm out of Woods. I was going to mention the horribly-expensive ($160 a bottle) vodka I have in the freezer -I'm on my second bottle now!- but despite (or because of) the fact I was making Martinis with it just last night, I've forgotten the name!
But, being from a Maritime family, my spirit of choice would have to be Woods 100 rum, drunk neat, or Pussers on the rare occasion I'm out of Woods. Trader Joe's has Glenfiddich for very reasonable prices. The one near me usually carried the burgundy cask one ... mmmm.

I will warn you up front that it is not faint of wallet, but here goes - there is a liquor store that specialises in whisky and wine here in Calgary that apparently purchased a whole cask of 28 year Auchentoshan and paid to have it bottled. I will send you the link to the store if you like and they might be able to ship you a bottle. It is significant enough to them that if you buy a bottle, you get your name on a plaque that commemorates the bottling. They only got 156 bottles from the hogshead, and I think around half remain.

If you are interested in a bottle and cannot get them to ship to you, I might be able to help you out a bit.
If you do get a bottle, tell them that the owner of bottle #71 recommended it!

Bourbon is king in Kentucky. Try Woodford Reserve or Makers Mark.
