That's fine but.... I asked why. Simple question I believe. Any bad memories tied to it? Or, does it just leave a bad taste in your mouth after the use of said word?

The word is generally not of positive associations.

I think more than anything, I associate "slacks" with 70's polyester. But it's just a word.

Zach R. - thanks for the revival of this thread! Somehow I totally missed it when looking through the threads posted before my humble August 2005 arrival.

Although I prefer to buy American whenever possible, I don't think I'm going to find any new and authentic highwaisted pants unless I have them tailor made, which would quickly get too expensive for my college student / blue collar budget. And despite checking eBay nearly every day for months, I have been unable to find a single pair of high waist pants in my size. Having said that, if this project is still a go, I'd definitely be interested in placing an order. And, I for one would be especially interested in speckled or flecked pants if they are done authentic vintage style, as they would look teriffic with my 1950s and 1960s sport shirts as well. Heck, sew me up a pair or two of those rust colored pants with the orange specks!

I've got shirts, shoes, shorts, ties, and coats, but for God sake man, I need some pants!

Tom James Makes Them

Tom James is US-based clothier that does made-to-measure. They make hollywood waist pants. See http://www.tomjames.com/custsuits/trouseroptions.asp and look at the very bottom of the page.

Tom James sends a salesman out to your office and he measures you. They'll do any detail you want. They aren't cheap, but they are cheaper than the Oxxford ones mentioned in a previous post in this thread.

I have a Tom James suit with a half-waistband (no waistband in back only). Their workmanship is superb, but make sure you tell the salesman every detail you want. Don't leave it up to him to decide.

I started by telling him him that I wanted to look like a gangster. After discussing all the details, I got a nice padded-shouldered single-breasted jacket. The pants were wide through the the thigh and calf and tapered at the cuff. The material was a super-150s charcoal solid.

Now it was by far the most expensive suit I ever bought - $1,300. But I figure that if I can keep my weight under control, I'll get 20 years of use out of it. That's just $65/year.

Pants by themselves will be much cheaper than that. And you can choose cheaper fabrics too.

Nope.

I got the sample sent to me by MK. I'm yet to get them cuffed. I started to work on that then my thread knotted up on me! That put the project at a screeching halt. I'm going to get them cuffed by the end of this week. I'll post some photos of them soon.

I do say, they are very true to original Hollywood waisted pants, I'm sure if I had a pair made with good heavy fabric and a metal zipper or a button fly, they would be satisfactory!
