Today's attire is just vintage inspired. The suit is a Land's End, the shirt is Steve and Barry's, the shoes and socks are from K-Mart, and the hat is kind of special to me. It's of the Designer Collection from Western Express. My dad used to own a gun store and carried Cowboy Hats, Stovepipes, Tophats, Bowlers, and had this one Fedora, and I had always wanted it and he finally gave it to me when I was 13 or so. It's got a lot of miles on it.

Thanks Gene, I also enjoy your posts! I'm looking for a more office-type job, so that I can actually wear suits more often. It would give me an excuse to hit up eBay for some true vintage ones too!

Now this is soon going to be vintage - it's a dress my mother knitted for me when I was 17 and 14 years later I am still wearing it and loving it. I tremble to the thought soon I'll be too old to wear anything so short at the front - I am thinking of possibly trying to modify it so I covers my knees, but I am too afraid it will get ruined.:(

Vintage Inspired

Today I wore Peterman's 40's Bow Dress for an awards ceremony. This dress is heavenly to wear but I think a size smaller would have been more flattering on me. Ignore the wrinkles, the dress and I got drenched in this awful rain we are having, I assure you it was perfectly pressed before I left the house. The only vintage item I am wearing today is a rhinestone bracelet.

Tom, nice work--I think that look works well for larger frame-sizes like yours. Daisy and CR, very nice also. Clara, I believe we're looking at a "word of the day: knockout--definition: you" situation again...

Slim, is that Central Casting calling for you? Vaguely torpedo-esque, but well within the "classy" standard.

Slim, I love how you worked with that green shirt, make a statement but so tasteful, well done, sir. Un-gaudy colour is hard to do for so many but you make it look easy.

This is such a splendid thread, no where else can I see so many elegantly dressed ladies and gentlemen.

I wore this to take my grandmother and mother out today for a late Mothers Day afternoon tea:

And just gadding about the house:

Vintage Christy's Bowler / My Grandfathers Kangol cap he bought in the 50s
Woolen jumper, probably 70s.
50s English topcoat.
Modern shirt.
Modern trousers.
Oldish Florsheim oxfords (I think)

Thank you, Viola. I have a closet full of shirts, and maybe six of them are white. It is fun sometimes to go out on a limb and take a chance with combinations.
