Wow, that's a strange way they did the tassel on the sweatband, running the cords down the seam and underneath. I don't recall seeing that before.

Funny you should say that, as I was thinking about that this morning before I logged on, and wondering if your Cavanagh was done the same way as this Disney.

I don't think it's the same, though, as you have a sweatband bow on the Cavanagh, and not the tassel. The cord seems to run circumferentially around the sweatband, as if functioning as a reed. The cord doesn't seem to run circumferentially around the Disney that I can see, as there is no reed cloth to contain it.

In any case, your hat was made by Hat Corporation of America, since it's 1942 or a even a few years earlier. It actually appears older than that, with the exception of the stitched seam, but perhaps that's attributable to the cording.

I just re-checked the Cavanagh and you are right - it is functioning as the reeding.

On the Disney, you are also correct - the cording is actually sewn into the seam. It looks like 'The Ellzan's hat is done the same way.

I also have a Disney that has this treatment. I put mine at late 40's due to onion skin liner tip.

I went back and looked at your photos, and your hat has a label that says Danbury, so it seems likely it was made after Lee bought Disney, which I assumed was in 1943.

However, it's a distinct possibility is that Lee purchased and started producing Disney hats sometime during 1942, and that ScottF's is one of the earliest Lee Disneys. The newspaper is a logically convincing piece of evidence as to the date of manufacture of his hat.

The jury's still out; we need more evidence!

Brad the reeding is the felted type like Lee hats so you are correct.

First Disney

This was won on eBay last week; several of you watched and admired it.
There are a lot more moth bites than the description stated, but they're shallow and don't detract too much from this grand lid!

The crest in the liner appears to be embroidered, rather than printed. Very nice! I'm really gonna enjoy this one!

Well, it has some wear and grime on it, but I'd call it "cerise". Sort of half-way between salmon and a dark magenta. It appears to change depending on what clothing I'm wearing. I'm going to have to research the care threads to figure out how best to clean it.

French for "cherry". Ladies fashion colors tend to revert to French when the price goes up.

How common was the embroidered liner crest? I think I remember seeing another one on this forum but can't get the search feature to pull it up.

For some odd reason that listing didn't really stick with me, but that's maybe due to the fact that I'm looking for a really light colored (almost white/off-white) hat, like that Stetson I didn't win...

Disney Windsor 15

Sometimes you just get lucky. This was listed as a 7 but turned out to be a 6 7/8 long oval!!! My ideal size!

2 1/4" brim, 4 1/2" crown, 2 1/8" ribbon. Wonderful soft, pliable felt. Cavanagh edge. Fake wind trolley. Fits like the proverbial glove.

Disney "Finnegan Twist"

Very blue with a hint of gray. Brim is 2-3/4". 12 ligne binding at front 1/2 with a bit over 1/2" on top which reverses to the opposite for the rear half. Crown is nearly 5" at the low point of the front pinch. 1-7/8" unreeded sweatband with small stitches. Needs reflanging as the brim is flattened and there's lots of dust. A genuinely long oval. I don't know the origin of "Finnegan Twist"
