This jacket is what US Wings used to sell as their "Current Issue" A2, similar to their "Modern A2", their more recent style which replaced "Current Issue". The primary difference between the two is in how the handwarmer pockets are made, and the number and arrangement of the interior pockets...
One of several jackets I no longer wear frequently. Size M, fits approximately 40-42. I'm 5'10 and 170 lbs, and it fits me comfortably. Nicely made jacket with features intended to make it practical as an actual riding jacket. Thick and sturdy cowhide, with workmanship equal to any jacket I've...
I've had several Schott Perfectos, a 618 and a 118, both nice except for having the belt permanently attached, and my favorite in this style, a 125, which I still have. The 125 comes with loops for a belt, but no belt attached, and is about one inch longer in back and best of all, has a zip-out...
For riding a motorcycle, one is ALWAYS creating one's own wind, so a good jacket must either have a collar which snaps down to prevent flapping (Schott 118/125), or which by design does not flap (Schott 141 and other cafe racing styles).
The other issue is wind/water up the sleeves, and...
In black or brown, the design features such as zippered sleeves, snap-down collars, assymetrical zipper on the front all shout "motorcycle" pretty loudly. That said, I sometimes drive to work in my truck wearing my black Schott 125.
Other motoring terms which differ include:
Windshield in the US, windscreen in Britain.
Hood (the cover over the engine) in the US, bonnet in Britain.
Fender in US, mudguard (or rarely, wing) in Britain.
Wrist pin (part which joins piston to connecting rod) in US, gudgeon in Britain.
Wrench (a...
"Lost Horizon" is about survivors of a plane crash in the Himalayas, was made into a very popular movie in the late '30s. It's a good read.
"Grapes of Wrath" is about a family from Oklahoma trying to reach California to find work, and is fairly good.
"Tobacco Road" about poor sharecroppers in...
Midnight In Paris: A film about a man who yearns for the 1920's
Just saw the film "Midnight In Paris" about a man (Justin Wilson), a writer, who wishes he could have lived during the 1920's, when his literary idols (Hemingway, Fitzgerald, Stein) lived in Paris. In the course of the story, he...
This may be an appropriate time to ask a question regarding the freedom of motion of a Highwayman. Since the jacket appears to lack either gussets or an action back, how restrictive is it compared with, say, a G1?
I like the G1, but prefer the collar of the A2. Gibson & Barnes makes a "Raider" and an F85 jacket which combines the G1 articulated back and sleeves with an A2 collar.
I'm sure a competent tailor could put a conventional collar on your sons jacket.
Bob Rivers did a parody of "Love Shack" which makes me laugh http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mM1VbyMfuXA
Weird Al did TWO Christmas songs, both original works and not parodies

I tried to order one of these in size Medium, and they were sold out. I own the similar jacket in their VIP cowhide, and in black goatskin. Both are very nicely made, and I am sorry that these are being discontinued. I normally wear a 40, and their Medium fits me well.
I own two of the US Wings Signature Series jackets, one in their VIP cowhide, and the other in black goatskin. I usually wear a 40, and both of these jackets fit well in size Medium, i.e. perfect fit in the shoulders (19.5"), and a comfortable fit through the body (23" pit to pit) and sleeve...
It has a sort of "dieselpunk" look to me, I can easily see the wearer with a pair of goggles and tall engineer boots, pulling a big lever in some sort of cold laboratory. The length of the zipper would make it a bit impractical to relieve oneself unless it were a "two-way" zipper that opens from...
Has anyone purchased a jacket from San Diego Leather, known also as Leather.com? Saw some attractive military jackets on their site, including a nice "G2 Raider", similar to the Raider offered by Gibson and Barnes. Interested in quality of materials and workmanship, fit, etc.
