I can't believe the shoulder width will be too big for you (and I measured 18"). But I would most definitely ask LW to shorten the body for you if that is a concern, at least the front if that is possible. It is really a great jacket.- dopey

A horsehide G-1 would be awesome. The shoulder gussets are remarkable for getting a trim fit with a ton of mobility - it is one of the reasons I like it so much, even if I wish the front were shorter. If anyone reading this can fit into a 42, they should snatch that up.- dopey

Thanks. Obviously, I don't take your criticism of LW personally - I am not my jacket. I prefer a tougher hide and no pre-aging, though that is purely subjective. I am sure I would prefer a nicer mouton collar, though the LW is plenty nice and i guess i don't know what I am missing. But boy...- dopey

I am sorry, but I was not able to find the original measurements from the seller. Mine is a size 40 and my actual chest measurement is 39" The jacket fits closely but is not restrictive because of the shoulder blade and armpit gussets. So I would say true-to-size if you are reasonably lean...- dopey

Shearling "B-3" question
Thank. I guess it's worth asking a tailor how much the alteration and sleeve addition would cost. It is a nice jacket and for $150 or so it would be worth keeping. Otherwise, I can just give it to the local Housing Works.- dopey

Shearling "B-3" question
Someone gave me a Ralph Lauren Polo shearling that is pretty similar to a b-3 though not so perfect as to be a repro. But very close. there are two problems - it is a drop large and, because he was a bit of a meathead, he had the sleeve lining/shearling taken out to make room for his "guns"...- dopey

Please do. I find this fascinating. Particularly the semiotics of the different styles of wearing them. I would love to be able to decode the meaning of snap or flat brim, worn low on the forehead or pushed way back and tilted up, pinched or not pinched, etc. -
