Is there a requirement that the hat have an oversized crown and brim?
I often see yeshiva kids with hats that are the right head circumference but absurdly large for their face and frame. The other thing I noticed is the absurdity of the large black fedora with a puffy blue down...
I am not a wolf nor am I in costume
MK: I am not the guy you are concerned with, as the several members with whom I have had direct correspondence know.
If you have rules on this forum, then post them. Complaining that people won't read them is no excuse. If you delete my post because...
Apparently, while trying to offer a helpful response, I violated some secret rule, and my post was deleted.
I am happy to respect rules I know about, but I don’t like being slapped down by secret rules. A PM explaining the policy would have been appropriate.
Thank you all for what I...
It is true, but . . .
It is true that you should not pinch the front of the crown when you take the hat on and off as you can damage the felt. I have seen this in my own hats that I have worn for years and years, and also in a vintage Cavanagh. In that case, the hat was in pristine condition...
This hat arrived today. This has the nicest self-welted edge I have seen. The joint is very nicely rounded and completely smooth. No traces of stitching are visible. Noticeably better than a Cavanagh edge. Surprising since I assume this is a store brand hat (note that the brand is Arthur...
Are you sure about Cuervo
JP: Are you sure about Cuervo? Any hats they make are likely to be Mexican style sombreros and come with a bandolier of shot glasses. I hear Cervo makes nice hats, though :)
I am sorry about your hat. It is not salvageable.
Enjoy the other one that you have - it will soon become your precious. Perhaps, it could be dyed to the color of the one that was ruined. ALternatively, you could send your remaining hat to someone good to reproduce its feel. You may...
I don’t know if PanamaBob can easily ship to the UK. If he does, I think you should give him a call and place an order. His hats are great as are his prices. Make sure you talk to him about blocking.
Here is another
This is the only one I have with a pleated ribbon. I bought this Borsalino hat new more than five and less than ten years ago. I can’t recall where, but it might actually have been at Syms. It sure doesn’t look like a modern Borsalino and perhaps it was dead stock from a...
Chad:
That looks to be a very fine hat, indeed. Can you describe your impressions of the hat, particularly the felt and construction, in more detail? The minute I saw the detailing on the liner I got excited.
I got another vintage Borsalino from the ebay rummage sale. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=8204271014&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWN%3AIT&rd=1
I don’t know if the seller was lying when he said this designation (xxxxx) meant it was the best hat Borsalino ever made, but this...
not a hat
Selv-edge is not the name of a hat, but rather Stetson’s designation of the welt edge it put on the hat. I don’t know how flexible the term is, but the one I have is a very nicely done overwelt.
Nice Hat
Was this it?

I had seen it, but it wasn’t my size. It looked like a great hat, and I hope you like it.
While everyone seems to be urging android to return the hat, remember, he bought it for his wife. Perhaps they will knock the price down for delivering something other than they promised, but that may be better than returning it and leaving his wife without a hat that she is perfectly happy...
A Tragedy
This is really a pity. That hat is a beautiful style and block. Unfortunately, the finished product, while superficially beautiful, is fundamentally crap. The good news, and I don't wish to be rude about your wife or women in general, is that it is a woman's hat. I have noticed...
