    Do I got this right?

First off, sorry for the blunder below, I got epic and legal mixed up on locations. Legal, good, glad your getting it. If your left handed sounds like it will work. I usually try to not hold the hat by the pinch as that seems to be the most heavily damaged / worn area I see when I do...

    Do I got this right?

not sure how much steam a humidifier makes. If you dont have a clothes steamer, use the kettle. When it really gets cranking (lots of steam from a rolling boil) then start steaming the brim, really get it steamed up good and not just one spot. If your nervous, go little by little, but...

    Do I got this right?

5 seconds is probably not enough. Is it a western hat? or very stiff felt? It needs to get fairly moist so you can move the felt. If its a western felt it will need more steam than a dress felt, shape, steam, shape. You'll have to work it till it does what you want.

    Hat store start up kit

I hadnt done a search for it in a long time and so looked around today. Much to my surprise I found one. So, after a year of looking, I ordered it. On a comtemplative note: If tools, materials, supplies, even books were more widely available, would more people be making custom hats?

JAmes. I was going to oder direct from the Library of congress, it can take up to two months. Lets wait for fedora to reply about the loan on his copy. Then I will just copy the copy. If not I will try to obtain the book to copy myself so you can have one to. That will take a longer time as...

Hey guys, yes, surely you did. It can be had from the library of congress. I am about to order. If one of you will make a copy I would be interested, Steve, if you are serious about your offer it will save about 2 months time. I think the copy right law has expired on it. The Library of...

    The Poetry of Hats

Hi Richard, Here is one that I know of: The Drop of a Hat by Ogden Nash Darling, what is that? That, angel is a hat. Are you positive? Are you certain? Are you sure it‚s not a curtain? Shall you really place your head in it? How‚s for keeping cake or bread in it? Do not wear...

    Femme Fedoras?

Roger, Thanks for the plug.I am pleased to "throw my hat" into the ring. And you to Robert. A very brief intro: I have been making hats for about 3 years now. My love of vintage rests in the materials made during that era, usually being of a finer quality than whats available today. Many of...

    Female attitudes to male fashion

Thanks for this post,it was interesting for me. Dress throoughout the ages has determined status. I just got a book on the history of hats and the meaning of the particular style often had to do with postion in that culture.

Matt, Thanks for the effort. Looks good. I was hoping for the "formal hats (Navy centerdent, Cavanagh) when I'm wearing jeans" look. That just sounds like it would look great ;)

    Different hats for different Occasions

feforalover, basically I agree with you and subscribe to your thoughts. I have several hats I will wear in most any weather (season appropriate) but only one I will wear in the pouring rain, its an open crown western style w/ chin strap in a wool felt. It really repels the rain and stays in...
