    50's coats? I need help!

I picked this one up at the swap meet about a year ago. It is tight just under the bust and then flares out. A gal I know who owns a vintage shop dated it at late 50s or early 60s. I would wait until fall fashions come out completely if you were looking for something more authentic than the...

So, is there an elegant way to put air in your tires?

If you go to a station that has a repair shop attached one of the mechanics will usually do it for you without you having to ask. Even if you are on a bicycle!

    Sewing Systems

My sewing area has gotten out of control. It is beginning to look like a small explosion of fabric, notions, and patterns. How do you stay tidy? Any photos of your organizational systems? I have been looking around for some kind of cabinet that looks classy (since my sewing room doubles as my...

    Retro pattern search help

I found eBay auctions of them and online stores with pictures just by searching for them on Google. Good luck!

    web rip offs?

I feel the same way. I usually hit up swap meets and thrift stores over vintage shops just because I cannot afford to pay those prices. In fact, my last swap meet buy was 2 40s dresses for $15 total. They were freshly dry cleaned too!

    VINTAGE FRIENDLY DEODORANT

i believe that it is the antiperspirant that discolors fabrics and not the deodorant. you may want to try using something that is only a deodorant with a white t-shirt to see if it keeps the sweat stains to a minimum. another idea, i use that new dove ultra clear and i have not had any...

    40s 50s carved wegde shoes.

I bought mine on Ebay for $20. A local vintage shop sells them for upwards of $75. However, the toes on mine were in poor condition and I had them replaced by plain red leather at a cobbler. I also had a very thin rubber sole put on them so that i could actually wear them without sliding down...

Tailors in the San Diego Area?

Does anyone know of any reputable tailors in the San Diego area? I am looking to get a few things tailored but I have no idea who to go to. I have gotten a few things done here and there, but I don't really trust them enough to send them something really special. Thanks!

    I got a new job!

Congratulations! You'll probably see my dad there, he is in the prop department.

Strange Superstitions and The Superstitious Among Us

I am not superstitious, but I do believe in parking karma. If you drive like a jerk, you will always get crappy parking spots and if you are a nice driver you will always have rockstar parking.

New Ladies and Gents Step Forward

52Styleline, that is a sweet car. My primary vintage possession is also my car (an unrestored 64 Falcon currently undergoing an engine rebuild; I am the 4th owner), but it is not as vintage as I would like it to be. My graduation present to myself is going to be a early 50s wagon.

    Nothing but Seamed Stockings

I have also seen gals with garters tattooed on their legs. I can't say that I care for the look personally, but for burlesque dancers in warm climates it must be nice and breezy.

    Cute Vintage-y Shoes

My favorite pair came from my SO for x-mas a few years ago.

    Bobbed Hair

I just got a variation of the Louise Brooks bob and I love it. Mine is very heavily layered though, and if I had the patience or know how for waves I think it would look a little silly. If you got it more straight across I don't think that you will have any problems though. With my hair it...

    Neat Lounges/Bars in San Diego

Hello all! My 21st is coming up and I was wondering if anyone knew of some snazzy retro-lounges or bars in the San Diego area. I would rather not go the route of my local contemporaries and bar hop at the beach. Thanks for any suggestions!

Place for dance lessons in San Diego

I took some Balboa lessons in the Veteran's museum in Balboa Park (an apt location, I think) with Allison and Joel Plys. They run 2 Ply Swing (the website is escaping me just now, but I think that you can just google it). Very cool to hang out in the museum on breaks. I only took one class...

    I finally tried reverse rolls!

I use Krew Comb, but J Crew makes one also (a little on the expensive side). As long as it has water on the ingredients list it should wash out pretty easily.

Have you ever weighted your slips?

As long as you have a good grip on the top so it doesn't go sliding down your legs I don't see why it wouldn't. If you bruise easily it might not be a good idea either, depending on how windy it is. :)

New Ladies and Gents Step Forward

I also posted an introduction in the Powder Room, but I suppose that I should introduce myself to the boys as well. I am putting myself through San Diego State (only 2 finals and 3 semesters left!) and I work alot, the fruits of my labor primarily going to rent and school books. I actually...
