Good choice!
Although I've never seen the movie, the book is one of my all time favorites; right up there with "The Sun Also Rises." In some ways, I think "Razor" depicted the disillusionment of WWI vets better than "Sun".
I'll have to check the movie out, now. Thanks for the tip.
I was just there!
On my train trip to Albuquerque last summer, I had a 7 hour stop over in Chicago.
Now, I had already planned on visiting the Museum of Science and Industry, for the Indiana Jones exhibit, so when I got there and saw that they had a U-boat, well that was just icing on an...
Well my Orvis shawl cardigan arrived on Dec. 11, and I've had plenty of time to give a few field tests. First of all, screen accuracy is not even an option as far as color--I ordered brown, and soon learned that their idea of brown is almost white  . Let's just say, blond might be a...
I just read an article recently that pretty much compared any man who cares enough about himself to wear nice clothes to metrosexuals--you know, that new phenomenon that happens to men who watch "Queer Eye...".
The article said, "what's wrong with just wearing a baseball cap, t-shirt and...
Has anyone seen this in the bookstores? It's on my Christmas wishlist, so hopefully come Dec. 25 I can post a review of it soon after.
Basically, the books follows the 1933 Double Eagle gold coin that became illegal to own once the Depression hit. It was thought all the coins were confiscated...
All this talking about film noir, The Golden Era, fedoras, etc., jogged my memory and reminded me about a (seemingly) forgotten HBO series from the early Eighties called, "Philip Marlowe, Private Eye," starring Powers Booth. I was a little too young at the time to completely appreciate it for...
When I see a movie that I really like, I tend not to build it up too much for people who haven't seen it yet, because no movie--no matter how great it is--can ever live up to the hype.
With that said, I saw National Treasure on opening night, and I thought it was way better than any of those...
I just ordered my first Maltese Falcon replica from Haunted Studios over the weekend. Now the waiting begins--I have to take my mind off it, because I'm really excited to get it. Once it comes, I'll make sure to post some pics.
I'm kind of new to Jane Monheit's music. I worked with a guy at Border Books and Music who was a huge fan way before she really made it big, and he tried to get me to listen to her, but I never got a chance.
Then I heard her rendition of "Over the Rainbow" on the Sky Captain and the World of...
I was watching Casablanca on TCM last night, and I noticed a line that I never picked up on before, during the Paris flashback. It's when the Nazis are cutting closer, and Rick, Ilsa, and Sam are in that bar drinking champagne, and Rick and Ilsa are making plans to take a train out of Paris...
Hi everybody! I just wanted to say hi and introduce myself, as I'm new to this forum--though I've been around some of the other Golden Age inspired fourms like COW and The Lost Pages.
All my life, I've had a deep affection for the style of the 30's and 40's--clothing, movies, architecture...
