    Stetson Stratoliner Milan {modern}

    Thanks for the photo and info, rclark. I may just have to swing by JJ's this weekend and pick one up.

    What Hat Are You Wearing Today 1?

    Nice hat! It looks like the ribbon and binding are brown instead of the black that is shown on the JJ Hat Center website. If so, I like that much better.

    Stetson Stratoliner Milan {modern}

    How is the crown height on that one? I bought the synthetic milan Strat a few years ago and found it to be pretty low, even for a modern Stetson. Do you happen to have any photos?

    Recommend a Panama ...

    Speaking of hemp hats, does anyone know anything about this new hemp milan Stratoliner that JJ Hat Center posted on Instagram? https://instagram.com/p/2D9Co3QS7-/ I haven't seen anything else about it online so far.

    JJ Hat Center & Pork Pie Hatters NYC

    I don't know about current distribution issues either, but Bencraft has historically had a large selection of Borsalinos. JJ Hat Center used to carry many Borsalinos but recently they have been stocking more Stetsons and even a few Akubras.

    Thanks for the tip! Our agenda isn't settled yet, but I definitely want to visit a brewery or two. We also plan to check out the zoo and do some things outdoors.

    Ask a question, get an answer

    Thanks for the advice, guys. I did mean Portland, OR. I don't own a Tilley-type hat, unfortunately, and am hesitant to buy one as I don't think I would wear it much outside of my trip. I'm leaning towards a felt hat right now, unless it gets really humid in June.

    Ask a question, get an answer

    I'm visiting Portland in June. Should I pack a straw or felt hat for that time of year? Can any natives weigh in?

    Akubra Campdraft

    It is a lot to pay just to avoid the 3 month wait and any international shipping issues. Still, if they had it in the light gray color I would be at least a little tempted. I've paid more for lesser quality hats. I wonder if this means the door is now open for other US dealers to pick up the...

    Akubra Campdraft

    JJ Hat Center in New York is offering the Campdraft for a limited time, according to their Instagram feed. A first for a US dealer? https://instagram.com/p/0Ix2ABQSzZ/

    please help find this hat ... or at least what it is

    How about this one? The Bailey Gentry. http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-Mens-BAILEY-GENUINE-VELOUR-FUR-FELT-Gentry-Brown-Fedora-Tyrolean-Alpine-/171069490492 Doesn't seem widely available in all sizes now. Maybe it's a discontinued model.

    Bucket Head questions

    I agree with those who say a fur felt hat is a better investment, but if you really want a wool fedora in XXL, you should be able to find one for far less than $140. Perhaps take a look at the Bailey or Jaxon brand hats at the Village Hat Shop?

    My first 2 fedora type of hats

    While most people in NYC do not wear these hats, I typically spot at least two or three men a day wearing them when the weather is cold. They tend to be older gentlemen or young, fashion forward types. They are a common enough sight these days that no one would gawk at you for wearing one.

    Open Crown Stetsons: A Call (Plea) to Retailers!!

    I bought an Original 47 online and while I like the overall profile of the hat, I was a little disappointed to see fraying around the brim edge and broken straws here and there. It seemed a bit sloppy for a hat at that price point.

    Open Crown Stetsons: A Call (Plea) to Retailers!!

    Thanks for the update, Rick. So a mix of good and not-so-good, as is often the case with modern hats. I may give it a try yet, I don't know. Luckily it's still cool enough here to put off the decision for a while.
