I am about to find out Kitty T! I think if you were to go it alone you would have to use something like Redkens Shades EQ on your bleached ends, and try to match a higher lift color to the shades to do your roots- (I assume you are a brunette) I've had far too many hair disasters to try this... -

I have seen some extremely gorgeous pieces on Ebay UK. There are a couple auction houses in london that do live auctions and they have lots of the most amazing 20s, 30s, 40s dresses.
