Barbour International Rain Protection
I got caught in a pretty good rain Sunday on the motorcycle and was delighted that the Barbour International (with patch, pin is on my leather Rocker jacket) kept me dry as the proverbial bone. The blue jeans, ankle boots, and socks were a different story...
I'm from Fort Worth and you're right, you don't see boots and suits much anymore. Of course, like most of North Texas, you probably didn't see but a few natives. Hmmm, maybe I should singlehandedly attempt to bring back the boots.
Rereading "John Dillinger" by Dary Matera.
Just finished "The Santa Claus Robbery", a thorough account of the 12/23/1927 First National Bank of Cisco (TX) by four men, one dressed as Santa Claus. (Don't have the book with me and can't remember the author. If anybody's interested I'll get it...
Looks like an ascot to me. My flight instructor - convinced he is a reincarnated Battle of Britain pilot - wore one in the 1980's and gave me a couple. Once you get the hang of, it's kind of cool for certain occassions.
In the mid '50s we had a couple of swamp coolers. In short order the glue in the furtniture started to give up. That was a lot of fun. Roaches and waterbugs seemed to like them ,too.
I don't know when it opened, but there was a poolhall in one of the older sections of Fort Worth, TX with a big sign: 68 degrees Inside! Sounded pretty good during a Texas summer. The place was gone by the late 1960's, but had been there at least 20 years before.

Since I'm very near my weight goal I took one...
Gun Shows
I went to the lamest gun show this afternoon. Paid $7 and walked through in about 20 minutes. The only thing I was slightly interested in was a Winchester 1907 for $795. Didn't buy it. Didn't even find clothes or books. Oh well, thee's a bigger one coming up in a couple of weeks.
Colt Official Police
anon',
Good looking pistols. Can't tell if the grips are wood or plastic. I've got an Official Police with with plastic grips and only slight wear on the cylinder. Looks like it spent a lot of time in the holster. Have you looked up the date for yours? I need to find...
Wet/Dry?
Kiltie, the city of Dallas is wet but there are other cities in the county that are dry. (Can't think which ones) Yeah, it's a mess. Garland is wet, and so is Rowlett which straddles Dallas and Rockwall counties. Don't get me started on paying taxes to 2 counties!
Platten, as for...
Here in Texas it's just plain HOT for about 4 months. (100-105) I wear a mesh MotoGP jacket over a T or Polo shirt and it's still hot! Once the temperture moderates to a high of about 85-90 I wear the Barbour International. Much more comfortable than you'd think but then I'm getting old and...
