If any of you ever happened to be in Southern Oregon, Ashland to be specific, don't fail to take in a film at the Varsity Theatre on Main Street. The theatre was built in 1935. Although it has been divided as so many others have, the powers that be left much of the orginal architectural details including the chandeliers in the main theatres. The only way to describe them is as a confection of multi-colored plexiglass tubes and fins. The film I saw was "Married Life" which begins in 1949 and goes to about 1952. It is very well done and the clothes are phenomenal. Many of you may never heard of this area, but it is here around Ashland and Medford that Ginger Rogers retired and ran a rather extensive pear orchard. The art deco theatre in Medford has been completely refurbished and was named (what else?) the Ginger Rogers Theatre.
