The first step is to familiarize yourself with the board. Before you start a new thread, do a search to see if the topic has been covered in the past. Look at the last 4 or 5 pages to see if something on topic already has a thread devoted to it. Look at the topics covered in "Start Here, Links to Important Threads." Look at the topics covered in the Guides Section. Utilize this thread, "Ask a Question, Get an Answer." Most of the threads you start could better be asked and answered in this thread.

But the most important tip is to familiarize yourself with the Outerwear section to find the history of the section. Go back six months or a year and look at the topics discussed. When I joined back in 2006, I did just that. So, I had a good idea of what topics had been discussed and where to find them.

Because of that research, and being familiar with the past threads, I would guess that I haven't started more than ten threads in the almost 19 years I have been here.

Different from Reddit, but generally the case for forums. I've been on here and SF for about 20 years, Superfuture is similar with years-long ongoing threads.

Been enjoying my Freewheelers sunset a lot lately and I was wondering what if any care is needed for treating deerskin leather? I’ve heard things like conditioner ruining deerskin so I’m not too sure if there’s any care needed for this kind of leather.

In most cases, you'd probably need to regularly wear it at least a decade and then some before thinking about conditioning. They're not like boots where you'd want to condition at least 1-2 times a year.

Short answer for a new Shinki RMC A2 is not anytime soon.

Conditioning is more of a concern when you buy vintage stuff.

I bought a cool MA-1 off eBay. The only problem is that there is a dried toothpaste stain in the storm flap. How do you clean dried toothpaste out of nylon, lmao? I don't particularly want to ship it back because it's 70 bucks to get it back to Japan, and it's a rare Old Real McCoys jacket.

I have a question about users' experiences with Aero custom orders that arrive ill-fitting despite giving Aero accurate data. I finally received my natural leather Shackleton from the August sale (it took 16 weeks), and I'm unhappy with the fit. I already own a Shackleton. I bought it from Aero's site and provided those measurements, yet the custom order is too tight and has a weird flair at the hem. I have emailed Aero with my concerns and am awaiting a response, but wonder what others have experienced.

I provided the following photos of my current well-fitting Shackleton (brown vincenza) and too-tight natural vicenza:

Sorry to hear that your Shackleton isn’t as desired. I had the same thing happen with a beautiful Badalassi J106 that I ordered during a previous sale. The hem was much wider than I spec’d. I ended up selling it for a relatively small loss, but I did not reach out to Aero. If they won’t remake it, you could probably sell it at cost here. I would certainly be interested. Good luck!

If the dimensions are out of tolerance (> +/- 0.5“), then Aero will make a replacement without any fuss or quibble. At least that's my experience.

Thanks. They emailed me back saying the person who took my order is on vacation and will respond upon return. I'm hoping they will remake as the chest is .75" smaller than I requested (which is from my stock 44) and the waist is .75" wider than I requested (also from my stock 44).

Rolling jackets was advised by an old timer leather worker many years ago. Personally, I do like the idea and have used this method to organize my jackets. The hanging method is also good. If you have many jackets, I would not recommend the roll up method for stacking more than 3 piles high. 80% of my jackets are heavy and with time they might create some difficulties on the jacket. The key in this method is to make sure the hardware is not pushing hard against the leather. I use paper secured with a rubber band to prevent damage.

Anyone know anything about Schott liner compatibility? Always wished my late 80s 125 came with it’s zip-out liner and have seen a liner in the same size but clearly a non-perfecto label. Is it worth a gamble or am I on a hiding to nothing? I don’t have any intention of faffing around with zip replacement…
