Maybe a dumb question, but is there a great visual difference in the color between brown CXL horse and brown CXL steer? I already have a brown cxl horse jacket and am thinking of brown cxl steer next, but wondering if they'll look too similar in color
All the pictures I have seen of brown CXL Aero jackets are the same. There may be minimal differences per batch. But I think they will look too similar to be worth it.
But maybe someone here has both and can make a better judgement.

From what I've also seen, I'm inclined to agree. It's really not a big deal for me tbh, just curious. I figure the jackets will both age in their own unique way in the end

Hello TFL,

Hope ya'll have a fantastic weekend.

I need some help with finding a replacement for my broken Waldes zipper-pull on my Rainbow Country Hercules, I though I would try that before sending it in for a full replacement of the zip(as the "tooths" of the zipper looks fine, and I've tried to use pliers to get it to work again, without any luck, seems like the metal is just to weak after the years of wear).

Can anyone point me to where I can get a new one(or better one lol) that fits the RC Hercules you would make my day, not very knowable about zippers lol, and there seems to be a real jungle out there so all help is very much appreciated!

Cheers and thanks in advance!

Finally have a working zipper again on my RC Herc.
My local cobbler found a noname puller that worked, he had no idea where it came from or who makes it, but at least it works :D

If/when this one starts giving me trouble I'll just do a full swap for a YYK/Riri instead, really appreciate my Thedis with a robust zipper instead of the ****e repro ones.

If it were mine, I would probably replace the part that the leather strap is attached to with a ring and hang the leather ******** that ring. Somehow I don't think this massive piece fits so well.
That's what I did with one of my zips.
But of course a matter of taste.

That's not a bad idea! didn't really think about that in my "rush of happiness" with it being fixed lol, but now when I look at it again I have to agree with you(it's a bit "cheap" looking). I see that I can buy some nicer looking pulls, without changing the "mechanics" so I'll look around(or just do the ring thing like you posted).

Thanks Proper :)

While it's clearly oversized, I would rather have it as such. I would do the key ring on secondary zippers (like MrProper's cuff pic) as I don't find them aesthetically pleasing on the main one, feels like having a Ferrari but putting tape to affix the rearview mirror :p

Hmm, that's a good point mate.

Maybe something like this could be cool(this was the first I saw, so just a example :) )

I’m in the exact same boat! Failure on my RC herc waldes zipper that seems to be just an issue with the zipper head, not the teeth. I would really love to replace it with another waldes or something with a similarly cool aesthetic.

@Canuck Panda I saw you post this site in another thread, but I’ve been finding it a bit confusing to navigate. Would you recommend getting a replacement from here? Or does anyone have any other recs? Thanks all!

Yeah, and getting a new Waldes one was like 100$ with shipping included too :( and it'll just break again lol.

While they look great the repro zippers, they sure seems to be mega ****ty.

Hope you get it fixed in the end mate :)

@Zoro Yeah that one would look stupidly long I think(and don't like the design at all :p), but a smaller one could look good I think.

Yeah if it’s an issue with the whole zipper and not just the head I’m definitely replacing with something with better longevity! Thinking a two-way brass riri #8 maybe…

I have bought from Pheonix but the overall cost is too high so I cannot recommend.

Herrvallmo's way is the best way. Find a replacement zipper pull that works with the existing zipper.

As long as the zipper teeth are all there a new pull should solve the problems. The trick is finding one that works with the existing zipper.

I have seen these generic diamond etched pull used on vintage Talons too,

How do you guys deal with armpit sweat on your leather jackets?

- let it be, or just general conditioning once a year or so.
- condition area right after, while still moist or after it dries.
- avoid it as much as possible and just hope it doesn’t stain when it happens.

I’ve never worried about this before mainly because I only had dark colored jackets, but now I have natural, light and medium colored as well and wondering what’s the best way to deal with it.

Also if you deal with it differently by type, like from horse to something like deer.
anti perspirant or wear mid layer, if already happened, just air it out , and use light conditioner since the salt in sweat will dryout leather into early crack

while the leather tab is nice but the overall setup is too "busy" a small D ring and leather tab and contact glue is all you need

use pliers to spread the d ring a bit, slide in and use pliers again to crimp it back , slide leather tab, and glue the suede side together with contact glue, clamp it down or hammer with rubber hammer and once dry cut into a teardrop shape, and buff the edges.

Inspired by this thread: Why are zippers the weakest link in high end leather jackets? It makes total sense that the moving part is the weakest one in any item, but in a hobby where many pride themselves about not cutting corners, it sounds absurd to me that they do. Is it because the zippers in the past were awful so they resort to make them as awful to depict accurate repros? It simply is counter intuitive to buy something meant to pass the test of time with a piece that won't , specially when better alternatives exist that shouldn't raise the price exponentially.

So I bought some raw selvage denim jackets from Real McCoys; how do you care for them, and what should I do for the initial wash or upon receiving them?
