I just spotted that Bates have put their 1918 catalogue up on their website in a browsable format and thought that people here might be interested.

There are a large number of military hats, due to the state of Europe at the time, but also some civilian examples towards the end.

I like the description in the copy of the St. James : " An excellent hat to take the place of a hard stiff hat for those with sensitive heads " ! Sounds like it would solve the LO/Round head fitting problems :)
