Beach Party

I'm going to be in the Ft. Lauderdale/Miami area for a mini-vacation in March and I wanted to theme it so I'm going for either a 60s Frankie and Annette beach party thing or 20s theme in honor of the art deco miami boom of the era.

Can anyone recommend any 60s beach party movies that I can watch for fashion reference? All I can think of in my head is "Beach Blanket Bingo" which I can't seem to find anywhere.

That would be a good place to start. You might try going to Amazon.com and doing a name search for Frankie and Annette...they put out a few of these movies. Also, you can't go wrong with Gidget as she really popularized the 60s womens surf scene. The Endless Summer is another film that might offer some inspiration.

Look into old Elvis movies from the '60s. There is a list here. "Blue Hawaii" and "Girls, Girls, Girls" would probably be good places to start.

I LOVE '60s beach movies. There were many of the Frankie and Annette ones, all or most of which I believe are on DVD. Gidget and Gidget Goes Hawaiian are both fantastic. Where the Boys Are is one of my personal favorites, and actually takes place in Florida. I taped Ride the Wild Surf a few weeks ago, but haven't watched it yet -- that said, I'm sure any movie with Tab Hunter, Fabian, Barbara Eden and Shelley Fabares has got to be great! There's also Palm Springs Weekend, which was released right around the same time as Beach Party, but it's quite hard to find. Okay, I'll stop now! Thanks so much you guys for the suggestions. I love all of the Elvis in Hawaii movies. I can't believe I forgot about Gidget! I'm gonna look up some titles and see if I can wrangle up some of these movies for my weekend hibernation. It's supposed to be in the 'teens this weekend. Yep, perfect weekend to snuggle up under a blanket and watch people singing on the beach lol.
