    Good evening Boater Enthusiasts,

My first Boater arrived last saturday! An Olney Boater ordered from a shop in the UK.
Unfortunately, I will sent it back to the shop. The hat looked nice and felt sturdy. The size was still a little big, although I ordered a size smaller then I usually do with hats, but a bit filling under the sweatband could solve the problem. So far so good. But after a second close inspection I saw the crown was off-centre. Very noticeable. Also my girlfriend spotted it immediately. The brim on the leftside measures 6 cm (2 3/8") and on the rightside 7 cm (2 3/4") (hope I got the translation from cm to inch right...) I don't mind little imperfections, but this much does bother me to much to actually wear the hat. A bit disappointed, although it was not an expensive hat, I hoped the quality control would have been a bit more strict.

For now the search for a Boater hat continues...
    Will keep you updated!

    Sander

ps. I wanted to take pictures, but forgot where I put my tape measure

I would look to vintage / antique. There are many good options at decent pricing.

My first boater, a 1940s (guessing latter half of the decade) Stetson Medalist. I love the "pillow" inside this one. Thanks, Mayserwegener. I was impressed by how clean and smart the hat looked for its age. Hopefully, this can double as a hat for both casual and formal summer events!

Hello folks, I’ve recently acquired my first boater and I’m smitten, I cannot wait for next spring/summer when I can wear it with my striped blazer

It’s a MacQueen of London with the famous Bon Ton Ivy band.

A new purchase from yesterday on eBay UK. An excellent speckled boater hat made in around 1930, sold by Lavery & Brace in Shrewsbury. My speckled boater collection continues.... (Current speckled hat count: 4)

Garden variety Ponte Rialto sold by JJ’s.
I really like the fit afforded by the floating (Bon-Ton-Ivy?) sweatband.

For some reason, 1930’s fedoras and Panama hats are in huge demand, but not so much the boater/skimmer. I like them and I’m always looking for more.
