Does anyone have a link to an online store that has a large selection of De Luxe Panizza hats? I found only one http://www.rmr-hats.com/16/Panizza-Hats.html and they seem to be limited on sizes currently. I would like to purchase a hat like this in camel color.
They have a large selection. They have the hat in my size with a wider ribbon but not the thinner ribbon. Thank you in advance.

The site you have found has vintage hats made by the original factory which closed December 1981 so they are very limited as to stock on hand. These are as good a quality as any vintage hats.

The current Panizza hats are using the name of the former company and are quite decent hats although not close to the original products. They are more readily available in other countries.
Here's their website with links: http://www.panizzacappelli.it/

This Panizza is not a modern hat. It is new old stock from RMR probably 1970s. The Panizza factory where it was made (the felt too) closed in the 1970s and now is a hat museum. I have the same hat in size 59cm that I wore yesterday (see below). I would go for the wide ribbon if available in your size. If someone decides to buy it you are out of luck. The the old Panizza factory produced superior felt and the overall quality was maybe better than Borsalino. I would also check to make sure the wide ribbon DeLuxe was made at the old Panizza factory. I just noticed it wasn't listed under vintage. They also have some nice Barbisios in the vintage section although the sizes available are very limited.

Thanks guys, I found what I was looking for. After reading what you two wrote I decided to order two of the Panizza Ediston hats. One in light grey and one in camel. I will post some pictures once they arrive. Buying 30 or 40 year old vintage hats that are new from the factory, can't go wrong with that I guess. I checked and they both were listed under the Vintage Selection.

Bolthead, Mayserwegener posted that picture some time ago and I have been longing for one just like it ever since. He has a wonderful collection of fine hats :eusa_clap

Mayserwegener, the website did not say how wide the brim is. Is my guess of 2 1/8 far off?

I would say 2 inches. It doesn't have the look (mid 60s - 70s) most like here but it is a very fine made hat especially for the time period.

Agree on the shipping! Better to order a bunch if you have the cash to avoid the shipping charges.

I have not received any personal acknowledgement from the company of my order. I did received a standard robot generated receipt. I assume that is normal procedure for them. I did not think about customs when ordering. My 2 hats set me back a little more than $500.00 so I will soon find out if I am going to be charged extra for customs I guess.

BTW mayserwegener, that hat looks good on you.

I remember they ship via UPS to the USA. In my case UPS ended up charging me a customs fee of about $40.00. RMR are not flexible on shipping which is a major draw back.

I emailed the hat company today and got a quick response regarding the import customs tax. They said that all taxes are listed as being paid but sometimes on shipments to the USA the carrier or the country expects additional tax. So, it sounds to me like I will be contacted by someone (the carrier??) and asked for additional funds. I have never ordered anything from overseas as expensive as these hats so I guess it will be a learning experience.

In my case a Fedex agent called to update me on its arrival and progress and fax forms and get payment info so there was a service fee as well as US Customs Duty. Only took a few days to arrive.

I receive items that can be subject to Import Duty all the time but in the UK this is random and seems to depend on whether HM Revenue & Customs can be bothered. Also the sum is never the same, and trying to clear this up with what are the most unhelpful and sometimes unpleasant people I have ever dealt with, defeats me.

Well, Deenis...
At least after all the trouble you may be in for with actually getting them, you can rest assured in those wonderful felts! I'm really loving the camel one, as I've been looking for a vintage camel lid for a long time!

Zanzibarstar, depending on your hat size, you may be able to find a hat to your liking (color, style) at the same website. You would have to browse all their hats and find your size. Each hat displayed usually only has one size available. You can find them here: http://www.rmr-hats.com/16/Panizza-Hats.html Click on the Vintage tab.

Prices are listed in Euro dollars. Here is a link to a currency converter: http://www.xe.com/ucc/

They look promising as to quality. I will be posting to this thread once they arrive as to my success or failure. Heck, since we live so close, I could even show them to you if you were interested.

Well, the hats arrived safely yesterday. UPS wanted $40.00 from me for service charge. The two hats cost me $515.00 American shipped from Italy. A little pricey but if you could only see the incredible attention to detail that went into these hats. The stitching is the most precise I have ever seen in a hat. Much better than my $500 beaver Borsalino. The stitch tacks on the ribbon/bow can hardly be seen. I was not expecting such high quality. And in a vintage hat that has never been worn by anyone too! Perfectly symmetrical and soft hats. I think I have grown a little today in my hobby.

Now the bad news, The brims are too short for me. When I ordered these hats I thought the brim was bigger. I just gotta have at least 2 1/2 inch brims and these are 2 inches. There was no description listed of the hats. So now that I got these hats yesterday, today I am already thinking of selling them on Ebay or this website  geesh! I will post more pictures in the classified section.
