I wanted one Baku Straw hat. This seems like a nice one. I will take it to Ignacio to conform, and might ask him to put in a leather sweatband.

Just received a brown Dobbs I got from ebay in the mail. It was sold as "grey-ish green", but this might be the most obviously brown thing I own.

While I bought it because it was almost od green, I needed a brown hat anyway so it evens out.

The seller had no information on the hat, including what material it is (or actual color, apparently), but comparing the labels on it to the Dobbs dating thread, I'm guessing it is late 60's?

Either way, it seems to be well worth the 30-some-odd bucks I paid for it.

[emoji2] nah. It will stay the same shape, but I will put in a leather sweatband. Or Ignacio will, I mean.
I keep trying to trade hat work with dental work with him, but no dice

It’s seems like one dental procedure might cover a lifetime of hat cleaning and reblocking.

I like the hat a lot and I look forward to seeing what you do with it. I do like the idea of sewing in a leather sweatband.

Complete and total defeat. I clicked on it and it was gone. Anyone pick it up?

I saw it, asked for clarifications on the size and got an immediate response from the seller (a good sign). What good is the diameter of the outside of the crown to determine size?

Length and width put it close to 7 1/8 so I lost interest, but I saw that it was gone a couple hours later.

Just made an impulse buy on this "Borsalimo." Yes, it's black. Yes, it's probably a bit too small (Punti 5), but the price was right:

May be available for trade/sale in the near future.
Nice one Jonathan. Don’t give up yet. I’ve been suprised by Punti sizes that fit large on a couple occasions. Seems others around here find the opposite. Hope that’s not the case for this one.

Yeah, I'm not throwing in the towel yet. It's close enough in size that it was worth rolling the dice. If not, happy to move it along to a good home. :)

He has/had another one up, too, that looked interesting, if a little beat. Had it listed as BIN for $65.00. By the time I asked about dimensions, his price had gone to $100.00. But yeah, 7 1/8 wide oval from the dimensions, on both of them.

A defeat that will haunt me for some time to come. I had high hopes that it would fly under the radar, because it didn't show up on normale Ebay searches, but no such luck.

I don't even know if it would have been my size. The only hope I have left now is that one of my fellow loungers outbid me.

What did it sell for?

Yes. 7 bucks right. I knew it wouldn't last. [emoji2]

$7.50, though there was the option for Make An Offer. Figured it wasn't worth trying to negotiate down a few quarters.

It'll be interesting to see the condition when it arrives as the pictures weren't the greatest. Felt body looks decent, and I'm pretty sure I see a stitched brim edge. The sweat and oilskin look to be fine too. Liner was coming out in the one pic buts that's a simple enough fix.

For that price it's practically a free Borsalino. I figure if it turns out to be worse for wear than what appeared in the listing it can be a good practice hat for repairs since I don't have an Ignacio at my disposal.

So if you saw it how come you didn't snatch it up? Price too low? ;)
