My favorite fall and winter sport coat is made from heavyweight cotton. It's finished almost like wool gabardine, but was considerably more affordable. Aside from some discoloration, it's been very hard wearing and comfortable.
Would it be inappropriate to have a complete suit made up in darker-colored (I'm thinking a medium brown or olive instead of the traditional tan, rather like a lot of the chinos on the market) heavy cotton for wear this time of year? It seems like it would be nicer draping than most of the less-expensive suit fabrics out there, the only headache would be keeping it wrinkle free.
