Yep, it was a perfect fit but I like to wear my vintage jackets like they are new, not having to worry about them falling apart. That's why I only own vintage jackets that are in pristine condition.

I have handled a decent few Hercules jackets but have never come across one with a Union Made tag......I sorta pegged that Herc label as a later vintage than would be the period I would expect to possibly see a Union tag.

Can anyone give at least a rough time period with the Union tags were prevalent and when they ceased to be sewn into garments?? This tag has a copyright date of 1949 so the jacket is that year or later.

I've often found Union tags to be very helpful in dating jackets, especially denim ones. Here are a couple good resources:

If you check the first link and scroll down to the 3rd and 4th of the 4 sample images, you'll find tags like the one on the coat in the listing. Unfortunately both the listed coat's tag and Marc's coat's tag are sewn in such a way as to obscure their far left edges, so neither the series code nor the R trademark symbol (if there is one) is visible. So best we can say (according to the info on the Steel Zipper website, anyway) is this Union tag is from 1949 to 1976.
