Have to say that I'm not thrilled with most of the shows these days. There are a few, for nostaligia (Barefoot Contessa - my parents had a place in East Hampton, and I lived in Southampton village); or, for pure entertainiment - the original Iron Chef show is why I started watching. I find I am drawn to more challenging foods from cultures with a longer history. I have dabbled with Chinese and other Asian foods, but for some time now I have been studying Persian and North African foods, Sephardic foods, and returning to the traditional French sauces and recipes from Escoffier et al.

Good Eats, great show, not only funny but explains a lot about the chemistry of cooking and baking.
Years ago I was making brownies from a mix and It was all mixed up when I discovered I didn't have any eggs. Well the batter tasted the same so I put them in the oven anyway. Well after 20 minutes I peeked in the oven and those brownies weren't baking, the pan looking like a boiling batch of tar, so that's how I learned that eggs make cakes solidify. LOL.

My girl watches "Food Network" incessantly, at all times of the day. I feel like I know the 'Barefoot Contessa' on a first name basis! .... and that guy that comes to your house and cooks for you..... and Bobby Flay!!!! Geesh!

And I get in trouble for being on the computer too much.... chatting with you!

(I sure eat good though, so this shouldn't be constued as a complaint - just an observation! Yeh, just observing, dear, that's all!) ;)

I might as well admit it right here; I have a big crush on Sandra Lee! I could watch her knead dough all day!!

The Food Network is the devil…

I'll agree. My faves are Good Eats and Iron Chef (Original, but I like America fine as well). Many of the shows don't do much for me, and some actually annoy me (Flay, Emeril, the host from Unwrapped who clearly doesn't really like the food).

I think someone got it right when they were analyzing the food network - the style of the commercials, the food shots, etc. - and decided it was like porn for food. lol

I'm a fan of Good Eats too. I can't help but have a bit of a crush on Alton! I can't watch much else on Food Network though because then I get too hungry. At least Good Eats is educational.

Mark Summers

but he hosted Double Dare, one of the most ridiculous shows I ever watched growing up! lol I LOVED IT!

I only watch Unwrapped if I ever watch the Food Network (if Im ever around a TV). I just dig that show.

One of the mysteries of life is the absence of Jacques Pepin from the FN. He's the best TV chef of all time.

There is really a simple answer...

If you think its the stupidest idea ever and useless......then

*points to the remote channel changer*

why watch? lack of willpower or something....thats hardly the channel's fault.

Many people enjoy the Food Network, just like many people enjoy all the other networks that arn't favorites of everyone.

Yes, agreed. The original or new Iron Chef? I am still a huge fan of the original announcers, and one of my favourite all time cooking shows was the episode when they had to cook with Sturgeon.

Absolutely true. There are several who should be there but aren't. TFN seems to need celebrities, rather than chefs. Then again, I wonder if Chef Pepin's health is up to the rigors of regular appearances?

Me too!! I have a thing for geeks though. lol

I love Good Eats and Iron Chef (I like the Japanese version better). It's funny because I have that channel on a lot during the day, but I rarely make anything they cook but I do get ideas.
