(Very chatty today!)

For those of you who game, gamble, or wager, what is your preference? I love the ponies, myself (hurray Afleet Alex!).

how I play

I like games that take luck and skill both. I prefer cribbage, backgammon and blackjack.
If I'm going to gamble I spend only enough that I feel I paid for the entertainment of playing. I don't think you should keep playing because, "My luck has to change", "I can feel that the next hand is a winning one, oops, the next one after that", etc.
Don't become addicted. Like all things, keep it in moderation (except hats off course).

I'm fond of card games. I like blackjack when I am in a casino, but have been a regular poker player for about 8 years. My game of choice is Texas Hold Em, preferably No-Limit.

Does the stock market count? I prefer it because at least I have a chance if I do the research and check the financials. The odds are pretty decent too. :p That is about all the gambling I do. When I go to Vegas and see people pump money into a machine, all I can think of is:"gee, if I put that amount of money into DESC it would have a better chance of paying off" or "If I put that much into MO it would at least pay dividends." :p

The stock market definitely counts! You should try the ponies; handicapping involves the same skills, and you can channel Damon Runyon at the track.

Alas,

I have an addictive nature and discovered I am too, too fond of slots.

I have to stay away now because I gamble too much when I go. Then, when I lose money, I say to myself, wow -- I could have purchased a new fedora with the money I just lost. Then, I feel bad.

I like single reel, multiple reel, and poker slots. Sometimes even Keno. I have won a few little jackpots here and there, but nothing more than a couple thousand dollars at a time. Mostly I lose, but like tell myself I break even with the casinos. This is a gambler's lie.

As my brother said, if everyone mostly broke even, the casinos would not be in business.

I did put some money in the stock market some years back and luckily got the money out before the market tanked.

I have played blackjack, poker, horses. Betting on cards or events never interested me. The desire is just not there. The casinos are fixed for you to lose so why bother. I do not like the idea of winning, I want the reality of it!

Slots really are like crack. They design the machines to suck you in. Better to buy fedoras.

The horse...

The horse is a beautiful animal, and when the one wearing the number I've picked runs faster than the rest of them, it becomes even more beautiful.

I like playing cards with my friends but not athe casino - too many track pants.

I used to like playing cards before I started dating a magician - Now I can't even trust him to shuffle a deck without thinking it's rigged.

Stocks

Every time I pick a pony to win, and just bet in my mind, it loses, so I stay away. When I bet money at a casino (the single time I did), I was so very sorry to have to say goodbye to the cash that I stopped. I like to play poker if it's for nickels or garments.
But I do pretty well in stocks. Did the same trick of picking stocks and pretending to buy them - I hit well so often that I started using real money. A computer company stock I own is worth about 6 times my investment now - I used a small portion of the profit to buy a very nice new computer from that company, with every feature I could stuff on it, the whole thing essentially free. Now THAT'S fun.

I spend time in stocks, some people think it is gambling, but it is much more, it involves research, time, effort, and more nerves then many casino games. Good Luck with all your games, all of you.

Your gambling experience mirrors mine.
Stock makes better horse sense to me. ;) Hmmmm... only six times your investment? :p

I don't know if this is a game or not, but my dad (Whiskey Fisk) and I used to look at topo-maps and try and find bits of abandoned New England to explore. The best stuff can be found along old Rail Road trails.

Now I'm trying to find the same places I once explored with Coppertop.
