I'd like to know who the Gentlemen think is the most beautiful actress from the beginning of film up to the 50's and why they think said actress is the most beautiful to them. :)

Rita Hayworth. She always had that sunny bright eyed 1940's American sexy glamourgirl look...and the personality to go with it. I fell in love with her as a small child in the early '50s.

Well, I am not a gentleman, but I do think the most glamorous actress pre-1950's was Garbo -- classic, mysterious, aloof but alluring, a stunning looking woman.

Also pre- and post-50's was the teenaged Elizabeth Taylor. She looked good as a little girl, a teenager (never had an awkward age) and as a young woman.

That's all, let us hear from the guys.

PS -- Yes, Rita Hayworth was a looker, too and very sexy. Check out Gilda.

Among the hundreds of beautiful stars, Lana Turner circa 1939-1940, was certainly up there with the best of them.

Edit to say: I'm not a gentelman, but still...[huh] :)

Behind the 8 ball,..
Veronica Lake. :) Can't say exactly why as this particular gentleman does not necessarily prefer blonds.
I just always thought she was really appealing and also a good actress. Probably a really fun gal to hang out with and a down to earth sort of person, as they say,...

It's really not fair to mortal women to bring the name up, but Audrey Hepburn of course. But I would more place her among "goddesses" than mere mortals. I think this should be called "up to the 50's (excepting Audrey)".

I have no bias, I assure you.

Loretta Young

Loretta Young was a huge favorite of mine on TV. These are from her film career.

Although she never made it past B-movies and two-reel comedies, Christine McIntyre always had that sense of intelligence and comic timing about her that belied her surroundings:
