John made me a Modoc in size 40. A zipper is nos double slider crown #7. The hide is Shinki light russet, which is quite darker than older batches (too much sake during Covid?). The lining is nos english rayon. What can I say, the jacket is spectacular. I have a Brunello Cucinelli leather jacket but it simply pales in comparison. PS I know that John has recently made a trial modoc jacket in his size, 44 I think, in Russet Italian horsehide and it is gorgeous as well. It has very interesting buttons.
Love the collar! What a nice looking hide and that's a really nice half belt! Congratulations to having a great piece made just for you! How long did your project take from order to delivery?
About 2.5 years from the initial engagement. We discussed it in more detail in June of 2020 and he promised to deliver a jacket in the next 6-7 months, which he did.
Good looking jacket! Not a fan myself of double zippers but if it works for you then it’s fine. By the way, I don’t get the making of all samples in size 44.
This is a great looking jacket! Congratulations! I tried one on once, and was delighted to find how easy it was to wear. Kind of like Himel’s Frobisher in that I think it would look good on a whole lot of body types. This hide looks softer than many of his options- perfect for this style. Let’s see some fit pics .
Beautiful jacket, congrats! IMO these Californians are the epitome of what a half belt should be. Would love to see fit pics.
Since John is a size 44 I would imagine he makes them in that size so that he can actually wear them around and see how they fit and move in real life. I see your point though that it might be nice for him to offer samples in other sizes so that people who aren’t a size 44 could have a chance to pick up a Good Wear without the wait.
Agree that it looks good on more body types and that’s why I went with it. Ventura is more restrictive/selective. Fit pics coming soon.
That’s the way to test a jacket for John. He makes a sample jacket the first time around or when he makes changes and wants to test them out himself as he wears the size 44. I think he is a perfectionist and likes to test the fit to make sure it works for customers too. No surprise that with his perfectionism it takes a bit long to get his jackets. Anyway so he actually got/ bought 40’s Californian, it looks a bit different than his other jackets. He recently made a test jacket that replicated it. It is shorter and the collar is more curved. Really good looking. He sent me some fit pics of both old and his replica.
