A few apartments ago I had an entire tiki bathroom. I got bambo and straw matting in Chinatown and did the wall. Added a shelf full of vintage tiki cups and vintage Martin Denny album covers, some tike x-mas lights and a shower curtain that was a South Seas image and bam.Tiki bathroom. Well that was years ago but I still have two dozen or more tiki cups bought on Ebay and rummage sales. Heck i even have Shag designed Tiki shirt! One of these weekends I will have to have an exotica night and make some Zombie Punch!

Don't make the Moai angry, Mr. Powers. You wouldn't like them when they're angry.

.

The Moai from Rapa Nui just don't strike me as tiki. The island they are on is more like a grass knoll than a polynessian paradise. The place is devoid of trees and kind of creepy really.
That and I find this moai some what disturbing:

Its starring at you Marc.
Who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of men? The Moai knows. :p

This is a great magazine full of Tiki stuff you can check out. I love retro stuff, but I'm also into Tiki. Each of my friends have at least one tiki bar at their homes. One of my friends, when he buys a new tiki mug, has a welcoming of the gods party. If you're in the California in the L.A. area I recommend trying out The Tiki Ti, Tonga Hut, Safari Sam's, and Haleiwa Joe's for some awesome Tiki drinks.

Just picked up a bottle of Tommy Bahama rum the other day. It stinks. Stay away. It was just put on the market about two months ago and I got it because 1) I really don't care for Bacardi or any Puerto Rican rum for that matter, and 2) There is only one store in Manhattan that sells Ron Mathusalem (the only white rum that I've found to be passable) and I wasn't able to get down there before my craving for a daiquiri subsided.

How come there are all these boutique dark and gold rums out there but no one distills a great white rum? Why does it get the short-shrift? If only I had my own still.

Regards,

Senator Jack

You might try this: http://www.neworleansrum.com/

For some reason, gold and dark rums are the rage. I went to the Bacardi Factory while in PR this summer...they have rums only available at the factory, and none were what I would call stellar, and certainly not worth the price...and all dark.

Tastes in rum differ. My apologies if you find it too bland.

Then it must be one continual party out our house, We have some were in the 200 plus and I think they breed in the dark lol

Actually, it's the favorable breeding temperatures of Nevada. You have to keep them cold and dark if you don't want more tiki mugs. lol lol lol

I *still* haven't made it to South London Pacific, despite various social events and telling myself for the last year that I need to make it up there. They even have a Hawaiian foosball table! The closest I've got is making a hawaiian theme outfit for my visit to SLP that never happened :(

There's Mahiki in Mayfair, but to be honest I'd much rather visit SLP.

I do like tiki, but haven't really invested in any pieces yet. One day...

I love Bahookas! I can't believe I forgot to mention it. I have a pic of me sharing a flaming bowl with my friend and remember seeing a big fish named Roufis, but not sure where it is. I've been there once, but it was soooo much fun. I want to go back now that you've mentioned it.
