Historyteach, shoot me some pics. Ideally I'm a 6 7/8. Che, I've been trying to stay away from Alameda Flea just cause me and the old lady are trying to minimize all the crap we've collected from going there and our compulsory collecting habit is too much to resist when presented with a good bargain. We always go saying we'll just look for one particular item and then end up coming home with stuff we don't have room for.

Also, a few people have suggested some 60's stingyies and what I'm actually looking for is more of a traditional fedora just with a shorter crown and a slightly smaller brim.

I had a Stetson Chatham that I sold to a fellow lounger. I like BIG hats and the Chatham is definitely not a big hat, but it is proportioned like a true wide-brimmed fedora. It's just not huge.

A Playboy might suit you....I just picked one up on Ebay in 6 7/8 for $22 a week or so ago, although this one needs some TLC. The crown is not too tall and can be creased to bring down the height, and I don't find the brim to be overly wide.

I'm only 5'2" and skinny and the standard fedoras I come across seem a bit oversized on me so I always end up with Stingy brimmed hats. I saw someone post a Stetson Molton that seemed to have more of a regular fedora look but the dimmesions all around seemed smaller (shorter crown smaller brim thought not too stingy. I have a Pannizza kanguroo (pic below) that seems to fit me well but haven't come across many other hats that share these proportions. If anyone can point me towards some (preferably vintage) models like this I would appreciate it.

I'm like you, I like a low crown and short brim, not necessarily stingy, but one that will fit my small body frame and face. I have a Christy's tribly that is 2 1/4 inch brim, but it seems a little long for me. Forget about 2 1/2 inch or higher brims- too long. Its seems like its rare to find 2 1/8 inch brims, which I think would be great for me.

Now you've piqued my interest for the Pannizza hats. I didn't see the kangurro on the RMR website but am considering the Ediston. Seems like a nice hat!

Also considering one of the new Biltmores that seem to have shorter brims without being too stingy, like the Detroit or Hamilton.

I got the Pannizza from the close out bin at The Hat Guys in Oakland and really like it. It's super light weight and soft. Haven't been able to find any info about it anywhere though. Checked out the link that was just posted and there is a Lee brand hat that peeked my interest but the pic is of the bottom of the hat only.

Guys, thanks for the help. Went into a bit of a buying spree in the last few days. Waiting to get them in the mail. In the mean time if anybody has any comments on the stuff let me know. No need to be polite if I got ripped off, I ain't too proud to learn from my mistakes!

the first one is at Paul's getting bashed into a center dent, stretched and the brim is getting a tune up.

Oh, nice Open Road. I have one which is slightly older, but with a lot of the same markings. A quintessential Stetson, for sure. The 3x felt is actually quite nice. I was also watching that St. Regis, I wanted to take the ribbon off it.....but that would've been heresy!

Che, I know what you mean! I'm figuring once I find the perfect one as far as dimensions I can use it as a basis for a custom from Art. At least that's what I keep telling myself in order to justify the purchases. What's the story on the Lion? I like it but it seems a bit stiff compared to the Stetson. My ex is friends with the girls at the shop and one of them just married Ricky who still plays around town. This is the first time I've had them work on a hat, keeping my fingers crossed.

lauro,
I just dig its lines the Lion dont know about the felt ( oh it's made from a cute Bunny) maybe thats why Go Beaver best quality & lighter & stronger,,,me personally i only wear Lite-felt vintage hats with no lining's & easily bashed dry & very light weight or Art Fawcetts hats out of Lite-Felt.....I wont wear a Stiff-Felt no matter how crazy cool it is..
Ricky ! yea sharp Hollywood brim all his hats nice guy good for him....Got him a young wife. Right -on ,! But i am much older than all you guys good news...
yup..
Yea the ladies can do it but just be sure on the spot its all good & man up if a tweek is needed. Im macho so i overlook things in front of a Lady. You will be allright & sounds like your on the Family Plan there.....
