My parents have been hitting up a local auction, and picked up a couple of nice vintage (though unfortunately far too small for me) fedoras. I'll be putting them up on the classifieds soon, but was wondering if anyone could help me date them.

First up is a Dobbs Homburg, tagged as a 7.

Also, I've got a 7 1/4 Borsalino in a really soft longhair velour. Really amazing feel to it. Anyone have any info on this?

Your parents have a good collective eye for hats... these are very nice. You might check the Dobbs threads for some help with dating... I found this thread on another Borsalino Peluche.

Would be helpful to see the sweatband logos and factory stamps under the sweatbands. Without more details I think the Dobbs is mid/late 50's. The Borsalino is tougher with a range from 50's to early 70's. The black Eulan size tag in the link is the later 70's type while yours has the white fabric that came earlier. The selective focus is nice photographically but for informational purposes it is useful to see as much as possible clearly for dating the sweatband.

"Peluche"-plush, is indeed a longer fur fiber Velour.

Thanks RLK, I don't think I even looked under the sweatband. I'll take a look tonight and put a couple more pictures up.

If I were single, I'd be asking, "help me date the girls who look at men in these hats."

Fortunately, I already have a girl like that. :)

OK folks, I was at home for lunch so I took more photos. Here are some of the Dobb's sweatband:

And these are from the Borsalino. You were right on about the price billyspew.

Both hats seem to be from the same general time period mid-late 50's. The Borsalino stamp dates to late OPS and after which matches with the Baskin label with the Evanston Store which opened late '51. In the 60's they expanded into many more store locations. I presume the Dobbs sweatband logo has the carriage.
