As of today, I am sworn in and enlisted in the United States Air Force Reserve.

Knowing there'd be pictures taken, I dressed appropriately...although I should have checked my tie first, it was a bit loose.

When you're sworn in, it has to be done by an officer. My recruiter was a sergeant, so he took me over to a pilots' lounge and ask if someone would like to sign me in. Major Meyer here volunteered.

I ship out February 28th!

Congratulations! Young sir! You are about to embark on the great adventure of your life. I wish you well.

Also, that Hollywood Jacket looks awesome. You put it all together very well.

Wingnut... you're living the dream!

Glad to hear that you're officially part of the Air Force. Congratulations and kudos for wearing a vintage suit to the swearing in. Do you think they'll let you serve in pinks and greens? Keep us posted, please. Fred.

Wow! I don't know what to say Wingnut.
Of course congratualtions are in order and a thank you from the public out here for doing a job many would not do. Putting your life on the line for your country is quite an excercise in duty and selfless service. I hope you remain safe and advance through the ranks.:cheers1: Where are they shipping you out to?
You also looked great for that picture. No wonder the person to swear you in was a woman. ;)

Regards,

J

Lets go Flying Airman!

You kept that a secret you !! Great! I wish I could go. I am too old. Maybe I regret not having done that...parents pushed "go to college" kind of upbringing. And the Vietnam War just was winding down, so not many young folks in my school were considering the military. What a shame.

OK, you just won an airplane ride, some clear day, out of Petaluma, before you ship!

Congrats, Wingnut!! I hope your time in the Air Force will give you adventure, training, flying -- all the things you want to do.

I hope you will still have time to be a part of the Lounge and keep us posted on your whereabouts and adventures.

And we want to see a photo of you in your new military duds. I am betting you will be the neatest airman, ever. No one will ever have to remind you to shine your shoes!

Congratulations. My brother just signed up full time Army a couple days ago. He leaves in January. He'll be training to be a mechanic for Black Hawks.

Thank you for serving our country.

Thanks, everyone for the well wishes. My long-term plans are to become proficient in airframe & powerplant procedures, get my civilian certificates and use the G.I. Bill to pay for college. I'd like to try getting my degree before I'm 34 (I'm turning 29 this month), and try for a comission. I'd like to end up flying, but I can do that on my own time, as well.

My big dream is to fly WWII warbirds. It's a long way off, but it's a dream. I'm off to a good start, my first 1:10 of instruction was on a '43 SNJ-5!

Andykev, I hope I can fit you in before I ship out! Lots of cleaning and packing to do, and I've got a sweetie I want to get close to before I disappear for 6 months. Definitely have to take you (and others) up on the offers to go fly.

Hah! Not yet. Still have a small house to pack into a storage unit. I'm shipping at the end of February.

Thanks again! I'm glad to have the opportunity to serve.
