Lapel vs. Tie Width?

Is their any fashionable correlation between the width of your tie and the width of your lapels? It seems logical that a wide tie with thin lapels would look odd, and vice versa. By this same logic, a wide tie would look best with a wide lapel, and skinny with skinny.
Is their a rule on this? Or am I just being paranoid?

Collars and Tie's

Yes, I believe that you are correct in your guess. The tie and the collar were supposed to be relatively close to the same size, according to several style, and tailoring sources. They have to have some reason to get you to buy a new suite or tie. That having been said, you can have some latitude with it. Use your own judgment, sometimes dressing outside the box has its rewards. The extremes might look very odd, but the middle ground has a lot of play in it. Just my opinion.
