Making hat stiffer

I saw some nice hats the other day. They are something like fishing hats just with wider brim. The problem is that they are very flexable. They have no shape.
Is there any way of using stiffener to make them rigid?
I never did anything of this nature so could use some practical advice.

I know there are spray stiffeners available. A craft store might carry it. I think there is a way to produce a shellac type spray to use on a hat.
Can anyone with practical experience give a suggestion?
