Tall crown, 2 3/8' brim with black 1 1/2" ribbon, I can always change out the ribbon for a pug. I like taller crown hats.

Nice. I asked for a simple center crease. No teardrop. Very little drop in front to back crown height and a bigger brim. Wider pug. B sure to post some pics.

Bob, that's a wonderful hat! Love it. I've been wanting something in Hemp for next season. I was looking at pics of the new Hemp Stratoliner, but I would have to try it on due to the sizing. I like it, but I'm just not sure if I want the contrasting edge binding. Yours has such a nice clean look.

I would never have considered any of your ribbon colors (green, reddish, white or even the ventilation as the ribbon). I tend to get stuck in the same old same old sometimes, but your choices really stand out. Well done.

Alan...I love the toning in the first image of you wearing the Cavanagh.

Thx. Shane at Peter Bros did a nice job and I got it in abt 2 weeks. Theres still alot of warm weather left here in So Ct. I considered the Stetson Hemp Strat but I'm really turned off by their modern production quality as well as their prices. Ps. I also wanted a bigger crown and brim.

OK, so I took a chance a couple weeks ago on a dirty Stetson Premier Milan off the Bay. The seller showed it as stained and with a wonky brim. These are a couple of the eBay photos:



Quite a bit of sweat staining on the crown and some on the sides, just above the sweat. So, since I didn't have much in it, I decided to clean it up. Removed the pug, and a couple pieces of double-sided tape that was helping keep it on, and filled the sink with warm water and some Woolite. Turned the sweat out and plopped it in for a short soak. I didn't want to soak it long enough to lose the shape, however, as I didn't want to tackle that, being without the proper blocks. Went in with a small horse hair shoe polish applicator and scrubbed the dirty areas in a circular motion. I wasn't getting much in the way of results, so I tried (I hope y'all are sitting down), a weak solution of Oxy-Clean and warm water. Took about 20 minutes of gentle scrubbing with the applicator, but I had very successful results on the top of the crown, and about 75% success on the side areas. Unfortunately, try as I might, the sweatband got saturated. I had prepared for this by treating the sweat inside and out with Lexol and letting it sit for a couple of days. Turned out the sweat to let it dry, and hit it again with Lexol when it was almost completely dry, and let it sit turned out for a few more hours. When I turned it back, it had obviously shrunk and puckered a bit. So I put it on the stretcher overnight, and that seemed to do the trick. Put the plaid pug back on, but I'm pretty sure it's going to be switched out very soon.

After shots:



Cleaned up crown, inside and outside. Some of the glue which once held the crown label is still visible (the label didn't come with the hat).



You can still see some light staining just above the pug, but it was a lot darker when I started.

I've also reshaped the brim a bit with some distilled water and a little steam. Still needs some work, but I'm not too embarrassed to wear it.
