Just what you said Feraud. I being a 6 3/4 LO have plenty of opportunites for bargain vintage hats, so I rarely complain about being a pinhead.

Anyhoo, If I were you.. I would try wearing the hat a little bit before you give it up. It will grow on you real fast. You can also try some different style bashes that make good use of the extra felt in there, yet lower the overall crown height. You can of course trim the brim as well if it is too wide for your taste.

Here's an idea... See that FL logo hat at the top of this page... Your tall crown would allow you to make one just like the logo and add the FL pin to the ribbon.

In the 3rd pic above, you can see it bashed- that's a C-crown (?) with a little dome pushed back up in the middle. I really liked that shape and size on me. So the tall crown issue is put to rest. I just can't get over the color. I'm not an Indy 'Screen Accurate' Germany's WWII-era leadership wanting the exact center bashed tight-pinched HJ Poet look, I just want a nice, durable brown Fedora! -Not taupe, not bark, not grey-brown, etc... is that too much to ask? I guess it's all in the lighting, as you can see above in the photos, it looks like 3 different hats! If it looked like pic #2 in person, that would be perfect. -Also, the color doesn't look (to me) like the older photos I've seen of the Fed Deluxe. -Maybe the whole 'the Fed Dlx felt color changed a little while ago' theory over at COW is right? I emailed Hats Direct and asked this, and was told it wasn't true....but I have read accounts of people who personally had older models that have seen recent ones state they are not the same color.
Anyway, now I'm rambling. -Must be my tiny head pinching my brain's bloodflow off.....

Hello, just wanted to chime in, I just recently (2 weeks ago) got a new fed deluxe, size 58, the color was just as advertised and expected, it is a dark chocolate brown...beautiful color and felt, I love this hat, so much so that I just bought another Akubra, it appears you may have just got an off-color or even a fed reg instead of deluxe, seems odd...about the crown height they do say they are around 6" on size 60 and up and yours is a 56/57, so that is definatly odd, I would inquire about sending it back and having them swap it for another, I will try to post picks of mine, but the color is what you were expecting on yours, I am sure of it...don't give up on the fed deluxe...great hat

Yow that looks real sweet bashed! Actually has a bit of a reverse to it as well. Nice crown it does not seem 6 inches tall in the bash. Not sure what color you were expecting but from the pic that color looks real rich.

I totally agree. I have received a few vintage hats recently and 3 of them seemed disappointing. I even put one away for a week. But as I looked at them they grew on me now I like them all. Glad I was not hasty.

...did you say...chocolate...brown? Oh my. That's what I want- what looks like the color on the website! Now that I look at the website again, mine does look like the reg Fed color. The lining and sweat say it's the Deluxe, though.

But is it just their photography/lighting? -Because it looks similar to my picture- indirect sunlight w/no flash, but doesn't look like this at all to the eye. Well, to answer my own question, no- look at the ribbon...and the delicious milk chocolatey color in their picture....I'm hungry now.

yes, my color is like the pic on the website, although their pic does the felt quality no justice...my ribbon is a darker color than shown on your pic as well, sounds like you happened to get an off-hat, or maybe they stuck a deluxe sweatband in a reg.

Absolutely NOT!! I wish it was, I'd put a darker ribbon on it and be happy. It is really close to picture #1 at the top. I don't really know hoe to describe it...other than *yucky*

I just left the post office, it will cost me $25.25 if I want to send it back, and then I'd have to wait for it to get there, then another week to get the new one back....

Your looks like a gray/brown color.
Definitely not the same as my Fed Deluxe.

you could always go ahead and purchase another and send yours back and get a refund (as well as recouped for the extra shipping) and the hats would most likely cross in the air, and you could have a new one (hopefully with a better color) and get your refund back at the same time (I recieved mine on the 5th day after I ordered it)

They'll refund you for the shipping? -I'm going to go ahead and email Ron at Hats Direct and see what he says about it all. It's just my luck- we're expecting snow and nasty weather tonight, and I can't wear my new Akubra (if I want to be returning it!)

Sounds like my typical luck, usually terrible, I am assuming with a decent complaint that Ron would refund your shipping or not charge you shipping on a new one, and certainly if your not happy with it your not gonna wear it, at least thats how I usually am...they are very nice folks at hatsdirect, I am sure they'll work with you...

yeah- that's why it's still sitting un-bashed and un-wearable in all its' domed splendor. The picture with it bashed was dry-formed just for the picture, there aren't any creases in it.
