I always enjoy the imagery in these kind of things, but have a problem with...I don't know...the pacing maybe. Something I can't quite put my finger on that probably just doesn't translate well with me.
I can pull out Steamboy every now and again, but could never take a steady diet. Same problem with ( the hugely different, but still, to me, oddly paced ) Jin Roh.
Maybe it's the idea of something epic ( at least in the creator's mind ) being compressed in a way. I used* to enjoy Robotech, and maybe it's because the story arc wasn't confined to 90 minutes.
I agree that this looks interesting, and I hope to see it for that reason, and maybe I can sorta get into a groove if I have a mini-marathon of similar flicks to acclimate myself.
I really enjoy the blending of ideas like this. While I could never immerse myself in the subculture, I'm glad there are people who do maintain it as a viable artform.
*and I'm sure I still would - it's just been a long time
If it were CG and live action, it just might be the movie I've looked forward to most in years, but animation just isn't the same - it becomes just another anime with big robots.
