Pied de Poule/Pied de coq also knows as houndstooth suit idea

I've got an idea to have a waistcoat and trouser (single pleat and cuffed) tailored.
I love the houndstooth pattern, but does anyone have any advice on ''eccentric'' or special
vintage fabric patterns?

Like I said my idea is the houndstooth pattern in darker colours (advice on colour or other pattern is welcome aswell).

Also, could black and white brogues be combined with this or would that be too much?

I hope you guys can give me some advice and pointers on this. I have looked around myself, but i'm a bit lost at the moment
as to what to do and choose.
