In "Midsommer Murders," (DVD set 11, season 9) episode titled "Down among the Dead Men," those scenes immediately before the title and opening credits incorporate background music whose name/identity I want. It may be chamber music. It may be opera. Either way, that I appreciate it is a revelation for me. In the past I have been unable to appreciate either genre, particularly opera because I cannot tolerate operatic soprano voices.

Music in Midsomer Murders ep-Down Among the Dead Men

Don't know if this q has been answered but here goes. It's been d*** cold here in Albuquerque so decided to hunker down under blankets and watch all the Midsomer Murder eps. I got to DATDM and also noticed the lead in music which I hadn't heard in a long time. The tune at the very beginning is Santa Lucia-a sort of Italian (Naples) "folk" tune. The later music, when Martin Barret is cleaning up after dinner with the woman, is indeed opera. It is The Pearl Fisher's duet (baritone /tenor) from the opera of the same name by Georges Bizet. There are several renditions on youtube. It truly is beautiful and is about two friends who almost become enemies over-you guessed it- a woman-but decide to make an oath to remain friends. I am not an opera buff either for similar reasons but have found some arias (even soprano) and overtures which are really beautiful. I LOVE music and have also learned in my later years to appreciate most forms (still can't get into rap). Good Luck and hope this helps and leads to further enjoyment.
