Borsalino Thirty in Sfinge (Sfinx) colour. Model is called Ta/Ludora. Bound brim at 7cm and crown at 10,5 cm at the pinch. Felted ribbon. The open crown is quite substantial for a borsalino; open crown it had me looking like Hoss from Bonanza!
The felt on this one is incredible. It has a chamois like finish which is the best I've ever felt, bar none. Mid to late fifties. Sold for thirty dollars by Rothschilds; this was not a cheap hat.

I have several times envied your hats, but this time is the worst. Damn, I wished I lived in Europe and had your hat knowledge.

I finally got around to opening some boxes. This is my Stetson western 5X that I’ll convert into a fedora when time allows:

You posted this hat about two weeks ago, Brent, (not that I'm counting), and I said I was really curious about how it will turn out. I still am :)

Okay, so it's not exactly a new hat(yet), but my first Fepsa felt arrived today and I'm really looking forward to the new hat it will become. This one is their fur/hare body in camel color and suede finish. I'm marveling at the tightness and incredible hand of this felt and I think even a hack hatter like myself would have a hard time screwing it up.

I’m curious myself :)

The crown is surprisingly soft, but the brim is as stiff as any western. The crocheted band was glued on, but aside from the glue areas that will get covered by the new ribbon the felt is nice. It has responded well to some steam and lots of brushing. The crown has a bit more taper than I would prefer, but it’s plenty tall. I don’t have any ribbon that I like for this hat so I’ll probably send it out for the ribbon work. I’ll post photos when it’s done.

What does NOS mean?

Sent from my LG-H870 using Tapatalk

NOS = new old stock. Also know as “dead stock.” It’s used for items that have never been used/sold but are not current production. In this case, Biltmore stopped making hats in Canada some years ago, yet this hat was new with all the original packaging. If you spend hours searching the used markets you get used to the shorthand.

It’s tight as expected (size 60) but it feels like it won’t take much to get it to size up a bit to fit me. I love the color.

Resistol 4X that I stumbled on at a great price. Not sure what I’m going to do with it, but I know it won’t stay the way I received it.

As usual, you are on a roll. I really love that dove gray. There is one my size on the bay right now, they want about $90 for it. Are these Biltmore hats worth the money? That black one should be an interesting conversion.

Hey, Mike. I can’t say that they are “all worth the money,” but mine are decent hats. In your size I would think you could do better for $90. I’ll also say that my personal preference is for a wider brims than this. My Biltmore Peluche homburg has a nice wide brim.

Well, you proved it...this beauty is indeed a deep navy blue. I could have sworn it was just a "black homburg, ho-hum" when it came out of the box. Gawd, I loved this one. Wonderful images.
Thanks, Mike. It is a high ranking homburg alright, among the very best. The pictures are my usual setup of course. The ones you sent me had the sheen of the ribbon come out better I must say.
