I keep checking to see if there is a new hat here. :(

So where do these "old members" go? Is there a "better" place to talk hats?

Perhaps so much of the history of many of the hat brands has been fleshed out already that it appears that we only have one thread (WHAYWT). I'll keep trying to balance my "like me" hat pics with a bit of history now and then. That's about all I can do.

This has been a great discussion.
The most fun i’ve had around here in a while.
I know myself that nothing i say really makes a difference to anybody but me and thankfully so.
However...i give big points to several participants so far for quippy, pithy innuendo comments, some great double-speak and historical accuracy.
Laugh humor points across the board.
Thanks
I give Fruno super points for his “forth new blood cycle” diagnostic. That really hits home.
I got no gas in this fire cause you all are right.
Righter doesn’t really matter except to the writer.
Back to another cycle.
B
Ps: was gonna post a new hat but it’s never been worn and would just probably piss people off. Lol

And I'm surprised at the totally batshit reaction to me chiding another Member about this. Slam? Condescend? Hypocritical? Firing squad? Get some freaking perspective, man.
OT & meant only as a joke here to lighten the mood abit, but the natives & multigenerational families of Alaska had a saying when things started to change:

"Forty below used to keep out the rip rap"

Well, other than the fact that 'Vettes don't dent, LOL. They break.
Never let the truth or your lack of knowledge get in the way when you're on a roll.

Just for clarity... are we talking new current Dobbs Jet 707... or one 50 or so years old?
In the world of collecting anything there have always been those collectors known as "magicians" because they can take green money & turn it into shit before you know it.

To some degree I think you're on to something but it doesn't mean the FL should become FB.

In the words of the great Al Bundy.....

“You see, yard sales are based on the "Bigger Idiot Theory." That there is nothing too stupid that some bigger idiot won't come along and buy it. The problem is that, eventually, you get to the head idiot.”

I don’t mind being the head idiot once in a while if I find some cool items along the way.

It takes all kinds, and the ignore option is always there if someone really gets under your skin. I fully accept that not everyone will like me personally or like all of my posts. I expect that what I wrote will not be read or appreciated by all. The socialist don’t agree with the capitalist and the reactionaries don’t agree with the progressives. Hats just aren’t all that important in the big picture, and some disembodied words on a screen shouldn’t get your blood pressure up...yep, I can be a bit of a hypocrite on that score.

I’m in the cohort after you and I think most members drift away do to lack of sustained interest. Once you’ve gone over this stuff 50 times and you go months without seeing anything truly new or interesting it’s hard to keep your interest. Not me though: I plan on haunting the Lounge once I’m gone.

Ignore is for wussies. :D

Apologies to the masses. I had no idea what I thought was going to be a simple discussion would blow up like this.

Just don't end up being the head idiot that gets all the wet kisses thrown about but no respect. I know for a fact there have been newbies that come here & instead of learning they get caught up in the race to buy 15-20 hats a wk. crap hats or Ermines doesn't matter, pretty soon momma puts her foot down & they have to leave because they got caught up in the OCD.

Okay, I don’t have it in hand yet, but here’s a new hat that I just bought:

I know it is purely fantasy but I thought how great it would be if we could contact 'old' FL members from back in the day. Then conduct a survey on the why of their leaving AND find out if their fedora collecting stopped, evolved into something else or ???? It was great to see a post from Moon today though. I purchased my favourite 'get' from him....a 50's Borsa.

The day I crave respect from the likes of you is...well, that’s never happened before, and won’t.
You seem to be mixed up, sir. You say you like resto-rods that get new updated, modified parts, then shoot up a post pretending you’re a, keep it all original, guy. That’s hypocrisy, and I suppose you don’t even see it.
Well it’s not me who first pointed that out. You did it to yourself and still can’t see it? You’ll get no respect from me...or anyone else having sense, if they’d dare speak the truth. But they won’t. They need you. I don’t.
Damn Randall, I was going to buy that $500 Lee you have listed & have you size it up for me since you said you did good work.

$400 starting bid. I don’t expect anyone here to pony up to the $500 BIN price. This hat didn’t need my fine work and I don’t need your money. Got plenty, and wouldn’t sell it to you now if my life depended on it.
I don’t do business with those who I know to be cretinous individuals.
Even though Jim and I disagree, at least he, and I have mostly, comported ourselves with decency, you sure haven’t.
However, you don’t have stay that way. There’s hope for you, yet.

Then you've come down $100. Guess you couldn't get anyone to bite at $500.
