Nice! I didn’t know the Gay Prince continued into the 1960s.
Thanks Brent! I think they made them from 1941 until at least 1961. I am thinking the brown one is earlier as it has a brown sweatband opposed to to the blue hat with its black sweat which seems to me to be later.
This add I just found is from 1961 and is for the shop that originally sold these and the brim seems pretty stingy so I am thinking mine are earlier as their brims are a tad wider than 2 1/2 inches

I'm gonna break the run of Max...
rare find: Rockel Velour Superior
nice velour felt, although (as Steve already said) not as high class as JHS-Velours
charcoal with violet tint - interesting lining in a great blue - no manufacturer's label found
I would have thought late 30s; Steve says: probably 1940s - he surely knows better...

I have only secured this rare find: with 55 cm - US 6 7/8 - UK 6 3/4 too small for me,
so I'm happy to pass it on to anyone who is interested...

OPS Era Portis Swansback - Breeze Lux

View attachment 277134

OPS Era Portis Swansback - Breeze Lux
Steel Grey bluish tones
4 1/4 Pork Pieish crown as shaped - 5 1/2 open
1 3/4 cobalt grayish blue grosgrain ribbon
2 1/2 brim with tight underwelt

For Election Day I am debuting my very first Portis. The OPS tag points to an early 1950s (1951 to 1953) dating. Prior to today I had only seen it in poor lighting and didn’t realize the blue tones in the felt and ribbon. Had assumed it to be silver with black ribbon.. but it turns out it’s more of a steel blue with a cobalt blue/dark grey ribbon. A beautiful combination. The original owner had left a piece of point board type material inside... I assume he used for forming the pork pie shape in the crown. I’m not soled on the crown shape but it will stay for now. The Swans Down finish is super soft and smooth. I’ve heard a lot of good things about Portis hats and this one for me supports those thoughts. If I remember correctly this one came off a tip from @BobHufford Thanks Bob!!

It arrived in this super cool Lee Pan Am box. Would have loved to have found that hat too!

Joe, that is a great looking hat. I think the crease works well and the color is outstanding. The box is just plain cool.
