My second hat purchase of 2020... acquisitions are at a slower pace than in other years. Oddly persistent negotiations were required for a hat that has been listed for a long time at 59 dollars. But it will not see wear until the warmer months of 2021. Portis "Bancoola" shares the same synthetic straw manufacture as the Brighton Rain-leigh posted below. The latter arrived with a 1937 train ticket stub under the sweatband. The only reference I find for "Bancoola" is a Paris, Texas newspaper advertisement from the same year. Originally retailed for under $2, so a comfortable mark-up to $50 today. More photos when it arrives.

Good news! The Ermine tails, certificate, ribbon, and silver medallion were hiding in the leather case. Pics of the paper tag, too.

Great that you found these souvenirs with the hat and case. Seems the market for this high end hat continued for decades after the 1941 offering - likely becoming more "affordable" with the release of the Stetson 100 and the rise of prices over the years. Looks to be a hat made somewhere in the 1950s. Hope it can be cleaned up and sized so that you can wear it proudly.

Thank you, @alanfgag. Do you know of somewhere I can read up on these? Or how many series were made?

Dobbs Cameron - West Point (Taupe) 7 3/8

Dobbs Cameron - West Point (Taupe) 7 3/8
(prob Late 50s early 60s)
4 3/4 to peak of crown as shaped (about 5 1/4 open)
2 inch black grosgrain ribbon
2 inch brim with Guild Edge
1 3/4 Brown Sweatband

Here are a few hats that are a bit too large for me at 7 3/8 that will need to be re-homed. Here is a Dobbs Cameron with Guild Edge. I believe the color to be West Point a sort of Taupe color. It’s crown as shape is about 4 3/4 to the peak and about 5 1/2 inches open crowned. The 2 inch black grosgrain ribbon has a faded tan gradient in the middle of the bow that gives is a great vintage look. The Cavanagh edge (Guild Edge) brim is right at two inches. The brown 1 3/4 sweatband does have a few small cracks but over all is soft and supple and seems to have some life left in it for sure. It does not have a liner. Im guessing this one to be late 50s to early 60s.. probably on the 60s side. This hat originally sold for $16.50
