Welcome aboard, Ken! Great job of hat wearin' there.

A 7X, huh Vic. Oooooooothassniiiice!

Today I wore a recent thrift store junker. Only $4.00 and probably worth every penny of it. It's like it's made of recycled coffee cups, but for some reason I kinda' like the thing. It's labeled, ARLOP, SUMMIT HAT, MADE IN MEXICO. [huh]

A few years ago when I first ventured onto eBay I purchased a had identical to the one you have there with one small difference. I paid $44.00 :eusa_booh plus shipping to Canada from the U.S. I'd like to think you got a great deal rather than I got hosed...you got a great hat for a great price...congratulations!:eusa_clap

Thanks, Akubra Man.

I keep an eye out for cheap thrift store hats which can either be wearers or parts donors or offerings to you folks at The Lounge. I thought I was gonna' swipe the sweatband out of this one but then I tried it on...

My new Dobbs porkpie

So I haven't been around lately because my laptop has apparently seen its last days. My new one should be arriving this week! I celebrated earlier this week with a much needed black pork pie. This is a Dobbs. Here I am trying it out while on a work lunch outing with my friend Miles. I'll try to get some better pictures once my new machine arrives.

Got these at an antique shop today for $20 each. A little dirty but have cleaned up nicely.

Both in green!

First hat!

I got my first lid in the mail today! :) It was described as a "Stetson Twenty" and my investment including shipping was $24.79.

The brim is only about 1-7/8", there's a tag insead the sweat that reads "402E 20.00 7-1/2" and another that looks to be a union tag. Here are some pics...

Also on the black sweat is "Sprenger's Toledo". There is some sort of filmy barrier between the sweat and the liner. The black ribbon is 2" and there is a trolley.

Here's a shot of the victim...

I have two questions -
How old is it? I'm thinking 60's from what I've read here (black band) but does the "mode edge" fit that?

Second, on the front brim there's enough handling wear that the it looks shiny...Is there a wire or plastic band waiting to pop through the felt?

Not much of a hat, but it's a start...

Congrats on the hat!

You're right, from the 1960s.

Also, you have a hat with the coveted "Cav. edge" ("Mode Edge" in Stetson-talk). I doubt there's anything in the brim, the shine you see is just from wear. It's the raw felt showing.

Again, congrats on a nice first hat. :)
