It does have initials in the sweat band near the bow, but it does look like new.

Took me bit to figure out how to track through the usps site and not thru eBay but it says the hat is arriving late, but still on track.

I fished this up out of the bay the other day... it had been sitting around there for a couple of months with no bites, 5 1/2 crown as pinched and 3 1/2 " brim. Other than a couple of surface nibbles and the vergis stain, it's in incredibly nice condition. Stiff brim and soft buttery crown, it's a very nice bone (?) color. I've got to quit looking at hats, seriously!!
Question though, it had this odd whitish looking stain on the top, but that brushed right off but there seemed to be a lot of white powder all over the top. Do you think that had to do with the color, or perhap something to do with the making of the hat that then sat in a box? I don't know if I've seen the ribbon inside a vintage hat look so pristine.

Wow, that's really nice!!
My Resistol Dalworth showed up today. It's in great shape looks like it was hardly ever worn. It's about 4 1/2" to the center crease and has a 2 5/8" brim. Unfortunately it's not a LO so it has a bit more shape to the brim than it probably should but I actually kinda like it.
Looks great! How does the felt compare to your San Antonio?
I feel like the 3x on the San Antonio has a little nicer finish to it and may have a slightly denser feel. Both hats are similar in weight though and quite moldable. The 3x has lived a tougher life too.

The powder was a cleaning compound used at different times throughout the history of felting & hat making. The easiest & most thorough way to remove it now is to use the soft bristle round duster brush on a canister vacuum/sweeper.

Ordered my first boater online, the measurements taken should work o.k with my head. It is just a basic boater for the moment to get my first experience with them. This is more of a festive boater, but it will be useful from time to time. I've wanted a boater all my life.
While this is not my dream boater, it is o.k for a start. In the meantime, l am working with shops to get the real deal boaters in. If l am going to pay the big bucks it needs to be a proper one (solid) and l need to be fitted in person. I tried on a boater recently and it really suited me, it looked so natural.

I found a ne hatter on Etsy and took a chance based a just a couple photos (and the cheap price). I’m completely shocked at how much I like the hat. I want expecting much, but I’d be impressed at twice the price. They go by both Hares Haberdashery and King’s Umbrella Hat Co.
The first thing I noticed was how nice the felt was for being rabbit. It was expertly finished with a wonderful hand, but more than that it’s thin and easily molded. Really was not expecting this hundred percent rabbit for felt to be this nice. The felt does have a lot of spring back, and is not going to hold a shape without steam.
The sweatband is very supple, and somehow just a little nicer than most of what I’ve seen recently. It also has a decorative line of stitching like what Randall @Randall Renshaw does with his sweatbands. In addition, there is a sweat guard, or something similar sewn between the sweatband, and the felt. The liner is sewn in and well-fitted. Ribbon and binding are the exact same color and are well done. Were the binding end but together there is a small bulge in the ribbon, but there is no overlapping and you have to be pretty picky to care about it. The brim brake is decent, but could be just a little sharper. It doesn’t distract from the hat, but as so much of the rest of it is nearly flawless, It was one area where there might be room for slight improvement. I was so impressed that I’ve already contacted the Hatter to place an order for a beaver blend hat.
I need to mention the Hat box. It came in a heavy hat box weighing over three pounds. It is a wooden box covered in fabric. Additionally, it has metal camming closures at three locations around the perimeter to hold the lid in place. The hat box is quite spectacular. The inside lid of the hat box had a sleeve along with a paper certificate of authenticity. Check out the serial number!

The ribbon on that boater is just so exquisite, I have a couple of blazers that would compliment.
Speaking of which, I'm still trying to justify buying another blazer. It's not new, quite reasonably priced in fact. A company that specialises in renting menswear, mainly formal wear like dinner jackets, sell off stock when they replenish with new.
It's sold as a complete outfit, a new hatband would be all I change, something resembling the blazer's stripes. I just don't know if I could justify it to Tina. Maybe I should send Santa a note.
