About mid 1950's Stetson 4X Beaver Quality with embroidered Last Drop liner. Has 3 inch brim and 5 1/2 inch open crown. For whatever reason, these hats are very scarcely seen. I've found 3 others on the Lounge, the most recent of this style dating to 1962 having the black rectangular size tag instead of the keyhole tag. As soon as your fingers touch this hat you know you're not dealing with a 3X hat. It's in the same class as my 50's Dobbs Forty Western style hat, quality-wise. Seems they made all of these 4X sweatbands at the same time, all with stars in the logo and none with the maple leaf, and used them til they were used up, same as they did with the bands for the Stetson 100. These were $35 hats when new. I wish there was a Stetson thread to post this hat to, but I couldn't think of a better place than this thread for now.

My problematic relationship with bowler hats continues.
Cabela Bombetta 1.jpg

I honestly have to say that when I saw it on sale I had no doubts despite the size and my little love for this type of hat.
Cabela Bombetta 3.jpg
I have some doubts about its origin because it is a masterfully made bowler hat despite having the lining with the "Cabella" brand, a well-known shop in Milan that still exists at the same address.
Cabella Interno totale.jpg
The lining is held in place by old pieces of ribbon and I found the word "Stylish" on other Italian hats from the 1920s and 1930s.
Cabella Particolare 1.jpg
My questions about its origins aside, it is one of the best bowler hats I have found in my search for elegant or distinctive hats. It is light and beautifully built.
Cabela Bombetta 5.jpg
The cambered brims are perfect and curled with perfection and are 5 centimeters, the crown is 11 centimeters at its maximum.
Cabela Bombetta 6.jpg

Felt is a mixture of wool and fur, this makes me think it is "ancient".
Cabella Particolare 2.jpg
The size as specified is 5 or 57 centimetres.

One of the best bowlers I've had in my hands.

Hello,

No new panama hat this year (got way too many !) and I don't know why, but this spring i'm getting exciting about... caps ! OK if i'm honest, I think I know : I just finished the TV show The Mosquito Coast and fell in love with the cap worn by Justin Theroux in it. (which you nicely helped me identify)

Unfortunately it's sold only in the US around $60 on top of which I'd need to add $30 for the shipping cost to France. A bit expansive for an oil cotton hat IMO (even though it was also worn by Quint in the Jaws movie)

But then I found one that I think looks much better and I just received it this morning

It's made from pigskin by French hatter Aurega.

Ahh...Straw season. I truly love the early Milan straws. This is a a rare breed from Dobbs with a 2 3/4 inch brim and 6 3/4 crown.

For me an unknown brand "Glory" from England in grey. I think it's beaverfelt, because of the label (last pic), but not sure. It feels like though. Very soft and mallable. It's in a mint condition.
Unfortunally a size 7, seller sold it to me as 58, so i have to stretch it, but done that before. Does anyone know any information of this brand?

Very cool find. Marcel and a good looking hat. Likely not beaver though: all the English union labels looked the same as that one. I think Moores is the maker of this hat. They used the more square looking size and colour or model label. The lettering on the sweatband makes me think Moores as well.
